People better find out how much the county judge and magistrates have put us in debt before they decide who they are going to vote for! over a million dollars for blacktop which was used to politic with. How can we pay the taxes? This has never been done before!

Who cares? Not many people in Wolfe County pay much in taxes. We live on free money from Obama.

Wolfe could be so more if only we could get some younger community oriented local government officials in office. These old goats in office have the head burried in the sand. Campton is wasting away. It must expand or it will never have nothing.

Grew up in Wolfe co. over on Bear Pen, moved away in my mid teen, I get back there from time to time, still the most natural beautiful place in KY. However I was amazed at how much Campton has changed, so many empty storefronts and so few people out and about, when I grew up there it was a bustling little town all things considered, was sad to see the old Bus station closed down, and the old school on the hill sitting empty. Have great memories of Wolfe co. but they are just that.

Miss it so much. But like most who have moved away, it wasn't my choice. I had to go where I could get a job to provide for myself plus be nearer to facilities and by businesses.
I dont know what the answer is. With the mint parkway expanding to four lanes may bring more industry and money into the community. Plus those that think they are great snd rule everything would just give it up and let wolfe county grow. It would grow. That money and land and political power ain't gonna help you once you die.

People here do not want thing to grow they say it would be bad to live where there is traffic jams and red lights. This town is a retirement community for people who worked and they can control the walfair people. This from the store owners in town.

We can't have nothing in this county no way for all the people that feel the need to destroy everything we do have and get because their lives are so full of hate and drugs it would be nice if campton did get a little more stuff like even a pizza place to order a good pizza from like little ceasers that's not a costly pizza and you can feed your family fairly cheap or even a place to go watch a movie I myself would like to have a exercise gym here but not one where all people do is sit and make fun of people who are over weight and not pretty cause we all have our problems in that field without someone always putting us down about it

I was in Campton about 4 yrs. ago for a funeral, stayed at the Motel on Mt. parkway, went into town at about 7 to find some Supper in a sit down restaurant, to make it short I ended up getting supper at a gas station, but the Liquor store was open and hopping, cars lined up to get in, drove thru downtown and it looked like a ghost town and the sun wasn't even down.

I still treasure the memories of my childhood there, people were proud to be from Wolfe co. then.... I still am.

What you experienced is the Marxist Utopia that has resulted from 50 years of the social engineering of the war on poverty programs. You will not be surprised to now learn that the gas station where you had dinner is now probably owned by someone from India--to go along with our foreign doctors. The only "industry" now in Wolfe County is the government. There are no new factories or other commercial businesses, but only elaborate government buildings and a multi-million dollar judicial building to handle the drug related crimes and family destruction caused by the poverty programs. The answer is, of course, more money to spend on poverty programs.

get your facts right. Apple markets is American owned. The only forgein business I know of in wolfe county is the mexican restaurant.
As long as the political atmosphere is like it is now nothing will change. All that changes is that it is handed down to the next generation.

To be honest, there didn't seem to be too many businesses, foreign or otherwise. I understand the role local politics play into building a strong and economically viable community, but they must put the interests of the community before their political ambitions.

I also understand how the presence of high poverty rates, rampant drug use, crooked politics, etc. can make prospective employers decide to locate elsewhere, causing most of the young people that wanna work to have to move away to find decent jobs and not rely on government entitlements to raise there families leaving most of those left relying on such programs, for a lot of those it has become a career or way of life that is handed down to the next generation, work ethics aren't instilled in the younger generations of most of these families, along with social morality and responsibility, most schools don't teach these things anymore for various reasons and parents that have relied on the government for years are ill equipped to pass those qualities to their children.
By no means is Wolfe co. the only place suffering these problems, a lot of things changed drastically in rural America and none for the better.

Wishing I was sitting on the bank of Wolfe lake in the summer midnight moonlight, waiting for a Catfish to bite.

I must say Campton is as pathetic as it's local government. You wanna know why Campton will never have a good steakhouse or be booming with jobs???? The city iS under populated. Why would a booming steakhouse or some factory like Toyota locate in with a population of, let's say 800 people move in. They won't, the population is too low. Even if something does want to set up in Campton, like at the industrial park, the land there is worth millions and most business want to make money not go in the hole. The risks are too high. Hazelgreen would be more likely to get a Logan's than the city of Campton. The drugs issue I belief is a product of, or the lack of parenting and the above mentioned. I think the drug problem starts early in life with pure boredom and that's what they grow up seeing because it's a paid way for the parents to supplement their welfare checks. Desperate people do desperate things when needed. It's called raw survival. Extending the limits to gain more population could be a good start. With a higher population the need goes up.

The gas station on the hill before you hit the parkway is owned by Indians and so is the one across from Dixie Freeze, so you need to get you facts straight.

I heard the other day that food is the highest it's been in 5 years. Looks like if work won't come we could at least grow food here or something. Or would we have to have some kind of government kickback as an incentive to get up and do something like that?
