Why would that happen? If that is so it is probably because of the screwed up Medicaid system. Soon all will close and all the doctors will leave.

Or the fact that they charge 900.00 to transport someone from campton to jackson. Money people don't have, so they take a chance and transport themselves.

The ambulance service is privately owned - the Volunteer Fire Department of Campton is the owner of the Wolfe County Ambulance Service - it is not owned by the county or the city.
I understand that there is a problem with the insurance that they owe KACO, but have no idea if they have closed because they cannot pay it.
I suppose that they want the Fiscal Court to pay the insurance premium, but not sure why they should do that.
Does the state not mandate that each county have an ambulance service?

From what I have heard the racetrack on 191 has to have an ambulance. If there won't be any ambulances will the racetrack have to shut down to? I sure hope not cause I spend every weekend there and would hate to see it shut down too. I hope the county or someone can help out the ambulance service.

The insurance premiums are probably high due to lawsuits and injuries from the ambulance wrecks they have had. It is terrible that insurance has to be so outrageous. This will really hurt the county if they do shut down. I think the ambulance service should be run by the county. 900.00 is cheap compared to other services. I was charged more than that and was less than 2 miles from a hospital.

It is a fact that they must have medical personnel at the track. Can be any service if Wolfe is not available. One of them surrounding counties will fill the void if it has to be done.

This is terrible for the county. Something needs to be done fast. If we are without an ambulance service it will take around 30 minutes for mutual aid to respond.

The county fiscal court is having an emergency meeting Friday. Call your magistrate and tell them we need an ambulance service.

They have had two major wrecks in the 16 years that they were in operation, not bad for the millions of miles that they have traveled.
Have to have a service

Unfortunately, "mutual aid" is only for extreme circumtances, and not day to day activities. Other counties don't have to personnel or the money to be able to cover Wolfe every day. Wolfe HAS to have a service. Fiscal courts bailing out ambulance services is nothing new. It is a cost worth paying. Due to the way Medicaid and Medicare rips the services off, or the fact that people use ambulances for taxis and other foolishness, is why an ambulance service can't make money. But remember, these ambulance services can't legally turn down runs, no matter how silly or even if they know they will never get paid. You would be surprised how many times they get stiffed on payment. Trust me, if you are having a heart attack, extreme trauma atv or car wreck, or whatever, you don't want to be laying there with no hope of survival because there is no ambulance to transport you to the hospital,or no paramedic or emt to stabilize you. Tell your magistrates to do the right thing and save the ambulance service.

so true, I was told that they have over 1 million dollars out ove the past year and a half that they cannot collect,no one can operate like that. So people pay your bills

I don't believe this. 90 percent of the people that use the ambulance have a medical card. I know they get paid for those runs. The other ten percent are people that have insurance and I know they get most of that paid. Even those that have a big deductible and have to pay the cost themselves.
Sounds like to me they don't know how to run the ambulance service.
As far as not using the service as needed, I have seen to many times the ambulances parked out in the parking lots of grocery stores etc. I even one time saw the ambulance parked at the local shell mart with the back door opened and you could plainly see the 24 pack of beer that they had back there.
But I will say this, what little service they give is better than none and could save a life. Mine included one time about eleven years ago. I don't want to see them shut down as they do offer a much needed and valuable service for our county.
If the government would crack down on medical cards abusers it would help a whole lot. For example, if you use the er for a non emergency such as an ear infection for your child, charge them a 100.00 deductible payable up front or you don't get service. And if you are admitted then waive that fee. Just like the rest of us that have insurance.

That's just it.....the government is not paying but around 10% of what is billed to them. How do you expect an operation to last that relies on insurances when the insurances won't pay? It is true about owing such a huge amount. It's in the books. It can be proved. It is not the ambulance service office personnel. It is all the debts not being paid.

So are you saying the EMS crew doesn't deserve a lunch or any break time while on duty? They drive the ambulance while on break to be able to respond quicker to you when you need them. Or they can just take their personal vehicle and respond to you after their break is over. Is that what you want?
