I have personally been unhappy with the school this year...they have ran out of food at breakfast time and lunch time, the lunch room during breakfast of a morning is nasty. If you sit with your child while they eat you have to wipe the table with a napkin before sitting down and the floor next to the garbage can has milk spilled all over it..can you say unsanitary and dangerous. Lets not forget when they brought the porta potties into the gym because there was no water and they were over flowing so our children were stepping in shit!!!...thats not straight by the books..that is against the law and they knew it but they had some children on a trip so it was cheaper that way, they wouldn't have to run the buses twice. The health department went up there on them as soon as it was reported. I also found out this morning that the kindergardeners cant buy snack anymore at lunch time...that is not right..That by the way was Judy Carson and Mr. Whismans call. I agree on going to your board members about all this but it seems to do no good. I have tried. You want to talk about politics in the school system and board thats what we got now. I think the superintendant and board members are all full of it. All they care about is seeking revenge and our children are suffering because of it. As a concerned parent the best thing any of you can do is attend the board meetings and speak up for your child. Many people didn't like Mr. Butcher but at least he done what is best for the children in our school system...Oh how funny and quick things can go down hill when people change positions and their heads get too big!!! Wonder how many people Kenny Bell stabbed in the back to get where he is? Not to mention Judy Carson, who thinks she is better than everyone else...I think Mr. Whisman has the potential to be a good principal but hes gonna have to stand up for the children at CES and quit basing all of his decisions on what Kenny Bell and Judy Carson tell him to do...
I agree with you 110%!!! My child is a kindergardner in CES. The port-a-potties was the most disgusting thing possible. If I would have known when it was happening I would have pulled my child out of school. However, I didn't find out until the school day had ended. If they didn't want to run the busses twice, why didn't they call the parents and let them know what was going on so they could pick them up? They have a lot of situations in which they don't have any explainations for. This morning I found out about the kindergardners not being able to buy snack at lunch. The call did come from Judy Carson and Mr. Whisman decided wether it would be Kindergarden or Kindergarden & 1st. He chose the kindergardners only. They said they didn't think the kindergardeners were eating their food. I know as well as you probably do that the first graders don't have any better judgement on this scenario. This is DISCRIMINATION!!! In the morning, I plan on contacting the Board of Education. The WILL explain to me why this has happened. They WILL change it to where it is fair. The will eiter sell to EVERYONE or to NO ONE!! If they decide they do not want to do that, I will take the appropriate actions to make sure that something is done! I have my plan laid out and I've already made some calls. It's up to Central Office to decide to be fair. If not, I can promise you that they will regret it!! I would hope that I'm not the only parent that feels this way!!

Let me get this straight...you have complaints bc the school wants your child to dress appropriately...you have complaints bc the school had an emergency with having no water and didn't have buses in the county to transport home so they made accomodations (accomadations that your child uses at any fair or outside event-except these were much cleaner since they were being cleaned every 15 minutes or so)...and you also have complaints because they don't let your child buy junk food at lunch instead they encourage them to eat food that is provided at NO COST to you the parent...wow!!!

My sentiments, exactly! As I was reading this, I thought I must have misunderstood - you are upset because the school doesn't want your child to eat unhealthy snacks and wants them to dress age-appropriate? Something wrong with this picture!
It is little wonder that we have a society of young people who are fat and letting it all "hang out", plus can't put a full sentence together using proper grammar.

Let me set a few things straight for the both of you. I didn't complain about the dress code. I have been at that school and seen 5th and 6th graders dressed more inappropriately than half of the trash walking around town! I agree with a dress code 100%. Maybe not the dress code they have, but I do agree with a dress code. As far as the port-a-potties, that is absolutely disgusting!! If it was "okay" why did the health inspector come in and tell them that it was not acceptable? I'm sure that if it was allowed, the health inspector wouldn't have had a problem with it. Here is a link to the Cabinet for Health and Family Services-Dept. of Public Health-School Facilities.

http://www.lrc.state.ky.us/kar/902/045/150.ht...

This page tells the guidelines in which a school must follow. When they had port-a-potties, they broke more than one of the guidelines. Besides, I didn't ask them to bring my child home. She doesn't ride the bus anyway. We should have been notified so that at our own discretion we could have picked our children up. Now, to the snacks at lunch time. My child eats healthy. She will eat her meal before a snack. I have taught her that if you don't eat your food, you don't get a snack. Today she had a snack, which
I provided. She ate second helpings of a vegetable and then ate her snack. If they sell snacks, thats ok. If they don't that's perfectly fine as well. My point is that they can NOT discriminate against the kindergardners and say that they are the only children in the entire school that is not allowed to buy at lunch time. I don't care if they sell it or they don't. My point is that what they are doing is discriminating against a certain group and this is NOT acceptable. Another thing, you may agree with this and that's fine. I don't and I will NOT sit back and keep my mouth shut. That's the problem with this damn town anyways. Everyone is too scared to stand up for something. I don't care who I piss off in the process, but I will prove to them that they can't discriminate against one group of children. Like I said previously, either they sell it to all of them or they won't sell it to any of them. To the comment about the society of younger people being fat and letting all hang out, that's not an issue with my child. First of all she's in kindergarden, she don't have anything to hang out. Second, she wears a 6/7 in the length in pants, but wears a 4 around the waist because she's so slim. If my child begins to gain weight which is not healthy, I WILL monitor her food intake and put her on a diet. Furthermore, my child is my concern, not yours!!!

I agree with most of the complaints. I have lost all faith in campton elementary after the molestation incident. As a parent I am very upset over the way it was handled. Parents should have been notified. I know this is old news but that was the start of the decline for me. I don't know whether he did it or not but In my opinion and working with children this is just an area that a young child would not just dream up or lie about and if they did; there is no way they could keep it straight. That is my opinion and If that teacher ever does come back my children will be gone. There are alot of really good teachers at campton who I adore but we need new policies.

Let me tell you a thing or to about Kenny Bell, He is where he is because he worked for it. He was best friends with my children and spent a lot of time at my house so I know him. He never kissed anyone's ass or brown nosed to get his job. I think you are just mad because some poor child actually made it to the top. I am PROUD OF YOU KENNY don't listen to these people that probably never had to work for a meal in their life.

Apparently you didn't know Mr. Butcher very well....I am not saying he didn't have his faults...everyone does...but our test scores improved under him no child went hungry while at school and I believe all students were treated equal. Just wait until next year to when our children go back to paying for their lunch and think about the children that go hungry now at school cause they can't afford to buy extras at lunch...supposedly the school system is broke but the board members and superintendant can afford to go to all these trips that are not required...I know so many are required a year but why go to repeats?

I did not complain about a dress code first of all...Did you know its against the law to put porta potties in the gym or any other enclosed place...I went to the gym as a parent doin a walk thru and it was disgusting..they were not being cleaned every 15 minutes...I pulled my child out of school as soon as I found out...the children were even complaining about the porta potties having pee all over the seats and had to walk thru waste becasue one of them overflowed in the gym!! Furthermore if my child uses a porta pottie at a fair etc...I make sure as a concerned parent that it is clean and that they do not sit on the seat...you never know what people have these days...and as far as the junk food goes...I just think that my child and every other child in the school system should have the same opportunities...when they don't it is called DISCRIMINATION!!! My point is that every child no matter their grade, race, income, etc should be treated equal and have the same opportunities!!! What do you mean no cost to me? I work and pay my taxes so yes there is a cost to me...furthermore children will probably have to pay for their lunches next year...they didn't have time to make it happen this year...Its not like they serve a whole lot of food that children will eat...they had soup beans the other day and all my child ate was potatoes...If I could I would take my child lunch every day!!

I know for a fact he stabbed people in the back...I thought a lot of Kenny before he came superintendant and even hoped he got the position..but I am very dissappointed in the decisions he has made. I do not feel that the children in the school system are the main focus...I believe him along with Judy Carson are more worried about the power and "getting back at people", playing politics than making decisions about the children. Hmmm wonder how Wendy Pelfrey got her position....did anyone else put in for that position or get an interview? She's kin to him by marriage right!!?

Go back and read my post...I never said a thing about dress codes..I think kids need to be kids and dress age appropriately..I could care less if they had to wear uniforms..would make it easier on me!!HA...My point is that no child should be DISCRIMINATED against because of their age, race, whatever...I could care less if they sell the snacks at lunch or not...By the way they have guidelines, nutritional guideslines they must abide by due to so many kids being over weight!! I cannot help wonder why you are complaining about this on this forum. Why do you not go talk to your school board member, your representative on the Site-Based Council or better yet, why don't you attend a school board meeting and address your concerns. Have you conveyed your concerns to the principal?
Even though I read a lot of these posts, basically, this is a gossip column.
I do agree that this is your child and your business, but what happens in our schools is everyone's business since our tax money supports these entities.
I do think that the word "discriminate" is not the appropriate word for what you are concerned about. What is right for a 5th grader is not neccesarily what is approripate for a a child in kindergarten.

I know Butcher very very well. Do you realize how much money we paid him for cell phones and mileage from his home? And talk about extra trips? What about his trips to Sweet Sixteen and I remember one in Lousiville around New Years and there were NO school meetings going on! The board memebers and superintendent are not going on extra trips. Wrong Wrong Wrong.

AMAZING!!! People on this thread are out of this world! First of all, the new CES principal is a man by the name of Ernie Whisman. I have had the honor of knowing Ernie all my life personally and professionally. I can tell you that he is honest, caring, and very professional. He is fair and consistent. And he is a parent himself, so he is well aware of what it is like to "want" things for "your" child. He is NOT Russell Halsey...he doesn't tell you what you what to hear, lie, of present a false image to the public. Ernie is very genuine and fair. And, for those of you who want to talk about his teenage years...bet you have some skeletons in your closet too (who doesn't).

As for Mr. Butcher....people in this county would actually take up for that man???? Those people need to do some research and find the facts about that man! He was and always will be a criminal. Research why he was fired from the Johnson County School System....go to the KDE website and look up records regarding his salary and benefits.....look at the fact that he split up a marriage by sleeping with his (at the time) "school nurse", whom he kept until just recently when they had a spat (have her explain all that to you). The man was a joke! He hired his friends (i.e. CRAZY Deatrah Barnett, Robin Halsey, Jan Mitchell) and family (loser Jason VanHoose). And, then there is the entire ROBERT BREWER episode you people like to talk to death on this website. Get a life people, Robert Brewer was found innocent in a court of law. Like it or not, he was found innocent...do a little research on school law before you condemn this system for allowing him to work her. I was a female child raised around Robert, and I can tell you that he NEVER did anything like that to me. In fact, today I am happy to call him a friend. I've been around him my entire life and can tell you he is NOT the person you people try to make him out to be. And, have you ever stopped to consider the reputations of and types of people it was who made those allegations against him? It's common knowledge the people who "accused" him are pure welfare trash. It appears they saw someone to try to set-up in order to go after a little money. He was found innocent in a court of law, people. Get over this issue! Stop the chatter on here about it...things on here can be traced and if he ever decides to press that, many of you may find yourselves in one heck of a slander/liable lawsuit!

As for Kenny Bell...good gosh, what more could you ask for? Kenny Bell was raised rough! You people are jealous because he went from the projects to the highest paying position in this county! Let's face it, with the job he has, not everyone will be happy with him all of the time. But, he is trying to do the right thing! And someone threw around the whole "test scores" stuff....the scores aren't in yet, nor have the tests even been taken, to start the Kenny Bell baseline of improvements or not. He has only officially been in charge for ten months! On another note, I do agree about the Wendy Pelfrey situation....she is Mr. Bell's family by marriage and certainly is not the type of person you would think would work in a school system. She, too, has a rough past and I'm not very sure she has outgrown it. Maybe that one was not the right decision...but, she does know a great deal about computers, which is all she does. They BRAG about her working at "THE BOARD" but in reality she is only a glorified go-for (no big deal). As for the lunches...if you are not satisfied with the free meal deal your kids get, be a real parent and pack their meals to send to school with them. As for the port-a-pots, put yourself in the administrations shoes and tell us all what you would have done, after you have researched the KDE website.....the Cabinet for Families and Children don't "govern" school systems; they are CONTROLLED by none other than the Kentucky Department of Education! As usual, this thread is full of a bunch of uneducated people spouting off at the mouth without knowing what or who in the heck they are talking about! Know facts before you get on here and talk about things you have no clue about! Bottom line: Ernie Whisman is the principal at CES. Like him or not, I'm sure he is there to stay and there is nothing you or anyone else can do about it now! Raise all the stink you want, call whoever you want to have them look into things....in all your efforts, what was the end result? He is still there and you are still complaining! If you don't like what is going on at CES, haul your kid to Red River so they can celebrate being one of the worst performing schools in the state or to Rogers where scores are awesome because teachers correct them before they ever leave the school in between the time they are all on-line earning stellar degrees during school (think everyone there is certified to be a principal because of that). OR, if you are so wonderful and intelligent, go to college, truly earn a teaching certificate, and get a job here so you can change the world, one child at a time. If you were in one of our classrooms, you would see that apples do not fall far from trees and students are a direct reflection of the parents who raised them...in which case, we are in real trouble!
