For many years, there have been promises and more promises of a park for children in Campton and/or Wolfe County. And for years, nothing has materialized - until this Spring.
I do not live in the city and cannot vote for Mr. Campbell - not that I would, but finally, someone has made the effort to get a park for the young children of Wolfe County. I can only assume that this is the work of Mayor Campbell and the City Council.
So, how about stopping the trash talking and say "thank you" for a job well done. A job well past time coming to fruition. Better yet, how about volunteering to help finish the park or to help keep it clean!!

Couldn't agree more! Re-election time is coming and he saw what happened to Hurst. Why has he sat around all this time doing nothing and now suddenly is out spending money like crazy. I signed the petition for sidewalks eight years ago and still no new sidewalk--of course, except for the one leading to his beer store!

Actually, I think that the Mayor and the City Council have done quite a lot in the last couple of years. If you would attend the meetings and the Fiscal Court meetings, you would have a better understanding of the process that was taken to get the sidewalks and the park for the children.
This park for the children downtown is great. Everytime I pass by, there are lots of children playing safely on great equipment that is fenced in. Maybe not a big deal for a large city, but for an entire community with a population of less than 8,000, it is a good thing.
There is a new water treatment facility in place, trees planted along the sidewalks, new sidewalks in the works that will run to the apartments across from the Nursing Home.
Why is it that just because you don't like the man - not one of my favorites either - you cannot give him and the Council credit where credit is due?
Having said that, I think there is a great need for cleaning the streets downtown and other improvements that need to be made, but let's take it one small step at a time!!!

Never said I didn't like him, that really has nothing to do with it. I can't attend fiscal meetings because they have them during the day, I have to work. If there are children at the park, I'm surprised. I didn't realize so many children lived in town. But I'm concerned that the city will be liable if and when an accident happens. And like I said, I signed a petition for the sidewalk at least 8 years ago and the money was given twice and nothing was done. I'm not convinced the water is safe to drink! Well, maybe he's doing something for someone, but he hasn't done anything to make my life better.

My goodness, fear of a lawsuit cannot be the reason we don't provide parks and recreation for our children. I am quite confident that the city has liability insurance to cover an accident. Children have accidents every day - we cannot wrap them in bubble wrap.
Funds have not been given twice without sidewalks being built - that is just not a factual statement.
I cannot say that he has done anything directly for me, but I am certainly pleased that there are others that have benefitted for the Mayor and Council's actions. It should not be a "what have you done for me" menatality.

I you signed the petition eight years ago then you signed before Gay was Mayor. Wonder why the last mayor didn't get the sidewalks, maybe because you are full of sh*t.

Really not any reason to be mean or vulgar. I did sign a petition about 8 years ago and true, Mr. Campbell wasn't the mayor-I guess it was Richard Jett. But by the time was money was available, Campbell probably was. But in either case, no Mayor seems to care until elections get near.

I'm sorry. I guess what I was trying to say was that I haven't seen anything new or different. I certainly didn't mean to offend you. Just in my observation, I have only seen activity in the last couple of months. I do live in the city limits and am glad that you've seen improvement and betterment, it's just that I haven't.
