Wondering why the wings program for CHS gets cut early, while the others in the county get to continue through next school term.

Might want to contact Marti Cooley since she was the one who fought to get the money for the Wings Program this year. She might be interested in knowing why herself!

I thought everyone knew the reason...Cottondale schools get left out of everything, including the newspaper. It's like a dirty little secret that no one wants to speak of. The children of Cottondale are the ones that are always left behind.

Also, they have a nice High School and Elementary School, so they can't be left out of everything.

Why hasn't the public been told? It seem that Mr. Sims should get involved. I have heard that the principal and asst. principal does not want to bothered with it. I am not sure. I hate to see the children in C'dale lose something else. Could someone possibly call Mr. Griffin. I know if Mrs. Deese were the rep for this district she would want to know and would personally ask a lot of questions. She is all for kids!!!!

Seem Good

Very often it looks good on the outside not on the inside. It is kept quiet. A good example is when the parents wanted to improve the softball field last year. Mr. Dickson told the parents that Cottondale would not get anything because they had supported Benton on the last race. It told them not to make any improvements. We are glad he is going to retire. These improvements were not going to cost the county anything. How much sense did it make for him not to allow the improvements? So this does go to show you what Cottondale has is a direct result of parents hard work. Cottondale has also been blessed with some good people working at the school. I agree they have 2 nice schools. No thanks to the county!!!!

Sounds like the parents should get together and demand an answer from Mr. Wilson and Mr. Sims. I also agree with someone earlier about contacting Marti Coley, State Representative. I remember an article in the Floridan when she fought for the money for the Wings Program; otherwise, it probably wouldn't have been funded this year. I bet she wouldn't be happy to have her hard work turned down or money not used for the students the way it was suppose to be used. Maybe the parents should also contact Nancy Deese, if Kenny Griffin isn't going to help with this issue.

i emailed Mrs. Coley on this as well as talking to Mrs. Deese. Mrs. Deee is looking into the issue as we speak and Mrs. Coley emailed me back and told me to refer it to Mr. Sims or Allen Boyd.

I have spoken with someone at the county office concerning the Wings program at CHS. I was told that the enrollment was down at the CHS wings program and that is why it will not continue through next year. I am trying to contact some other sources that might have an insight to the program. I personally would like to see the program continue at CHS. The grant has only one more year of funding left. I feel that the children of this community benefit from the program. I will post if and when I can get more information on this issue. Thanks

I am disappointed that Marti Coley referred you to Mr. Sims or Mr. Boyd. We also vote for her position!

The children said to be in 5th were actually children that will be attending 6th this fall and are therefore able to come. Yes, they had a couple of 9th graders and a senior. All this information is sent to the auditors every reporting term so they know what age/grade students were attending at all times and auditors make visits to check if the program is running correctly. There has been no deception. Although the grant is written primarily for middle school, schools have leeway in what age groups can attend. Last summer 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students were included. The final decision on what other students outside of middle school is left up to the hosting school administration and those students were not invited back this summer.

I just can't imagine why anyone would be so ugly about the Wings Program. And then accusing the school of deception. And the person who posted this on the Gym forum, sounded like the were employed by the school system.

So what if they were employed by the school system the wings program is lost and gone.We need to get it back at CHS for next year.

I was talking about the one who posted the info bashing Wings on the Gym forum. I would think if they are exployed with the school sytem , they would want the program for the kids, not accuse the school of deception and all!

Well, if so, it's not the schools choices it's because they didn't get the funding.
