i was standing beside David Speer the night Goatie sneeked up behind him and hit him in head with helmet. hardest i ever saw anybody hit and stay on their feet. David ran him all way out front gate.

If I remember correct, Larry Pickelhimer just had one are and one leg. I might be mistaken but I am fairly sure that is correct. He drove a black #81 and was from around the florence or Cincinnati area.
P.S.- I realy injoy some of the old stories from the speedway, sure wish we still had a track here.

i used to buy the photos of all the drivers. i still have them somewhere. i used to go to other tracks like glasgow, junction city, and northern ky speedway. i saw people like pat patrick, floyd gilgert, and there was a nascar driver who used to come around named charlie glassbauch. gene and russ petro. and many others.

Mike, Thanks for the nice comment on dad, there were a lot of great drivers over the years at the speedway and will always consider it an honor every time dads name is listed among the best from Taylor County and the state of Kentucky. Think about how the old speedway still effects this community, with I think 7 late model drivers and teams and four or five open-wheel teams in a town with no race track. Also any friday or Saturday night at a racetrack you will see as many people from Taylor County as anywhere. We may not have a track but we still show great support for the sport of racing.
Mike do you remember the chevel dad (David Speer) drove for Dale Napper, black #12 that had the dule four barrell carborators with the air filters out the hood about a foot tall, that is my favorite looking car he drove, I was very young then but I can remember it. My favorite car would be the #8 owned by Chubby Baird, that was 1986 and his last year of racing, he won either 4 or 5 in a row at TC and also Burnside just before he quit.
Keep the good memories comming.Mark Speer

i always thought david speers the best driver in this area. since he was my favorite driver as well i am partial. i know one time he lead the world 100 with like a 1 or 2 laps to go and his engine blew. that had to to hard to take for him. he would have had alot of owners wanting him to drive for them.

Also, when they tore the speedway down, I got some of the blocks of the concession stand. One of them had "TCS" printed on it. We chipped it off and still have it as a souvenir. Those were the "Good Ole Days"

i remember terry keltner and someone else i forget now, got in a fight on the track one night. they wrecked togther, in turn one. i think it was terry that drove around to turn 4 and the other guy was stalled in turn one. one started running from turn one, the other from turn 4. they meet in the middle and swung wildly, but i dont think they ever hit each other. it was more funny than anything else.

Hi Mark so good to see you on here - i havent got to talk to you since your dads passing hope all is well. i have a picture of the black #12 you are talking about with the 2 big 4 barrels sticking out of hood. i liked that picture - thanks to butter i now have a copy of it. i will never forget the night 2 guys from hodgenville built a new car and brought it over here for 1st race. niether could qualify it fast enough to get in feature. David asked to try it = set fast time - won trophy dash - fast heat and feature.

I think it was Finn that told me about that a couple of years ago, many people have said that dad was the best at getting into a different car and making it go fast right from the start.
