Wow, do I really have to call the 1-800 number to report food stamp fraud? I try to call the local office to report a known case of someone claiming other's children from another residence and without permission (not to mention having other income in the household) and I'm told that person would have to call them to have the children removed from the case. Huh?

Silly me, thinking a criminal that's committing fraud would not be honest enough to admit their crime! Insanity!

That's true and what's worse is there are so many people looking for a good job that wouldn't sit on their ass and not do the job they're paid for! These lazy people that don't want to bother helping when you call are taking up a job that could be filled by someone deserving! I guess it's all in who you know.

Welp, it appears you can only leave a message at the 800 number with all the information. Anybody have any idea how long it takes for them to respond?

I'm not talking about working people. I know working people can receive food stamps and I have no problem with that at all. I'm talking about another adult living in the same house that IS working and not reported on the case. And the one that receives food stamps is not working AND CLAIMING SOMEONE ELSE'S KIDS WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION!

I have heard that some of these people actually sell them 50c on the dollar, so that they can buy drugs, also the people buying them are not poor people, they are actually buying steaks at Krogers, I would report what I know but I really feel sorry for the children involved in this , it really is a disgrace, but what do you do

I totally agree with you all on this but some of these people do actually need the food stamps. My family recieves them and I don;t know what we would do with out them. I am constantly looking for jobs everyday and sending mine and my husbands resume and no luck. A lot of the things they do are unfair as there are so many other people out there that deserve food stamps and health care and don't qualify. I believe that they should take into account all of your bills, house payment, insurance, etc and then add in your income. But I totally agree about the ones that won;t work nor want to work.

I have a nice home and car but lost my job and now I need the help. I once had the extra money to do what I wanted and pay my bills. Now I am getting behind on bills and am so down about it. I can't tell you how embarrassing it is to be in line and people see you using a food stamp card. Then they walk out and look at you like why does she get those? I've even tried selling my car. No buyers in this economy! What can you do when no one is hiring? I'll do anything!

Hey, dont worry about others. People can be jerks, just do what it is u need to do to take care of yourself. Government programs are their to take care of people in times of need. If u need food stamps go sign up. The office is located behind Fiesta Mexico right next to the dollar store. Things u will need is social security card, copy of electric bill, copy of home insurance u pay yearly, proof of mortgage payment, copy of property taxes on your home, truth in lending disclosure for your home loan, you will have to have copies of all checking and savings accounts. Also you must not have over 2,000 dollars in savings and checking to qualify. If you are unemployed you will have to have someone that you know thats not related to you fill out a paper stating that your not employed, they will give you the form for them to fill out.

I have seen these applications and you only have to list who you want to claim on the case. My elderly father lives with my older brother and receives help. All he had to do was list who in the household was applying for the assistance and in his case he was the only one requesting help (not my brother and his family). It is hard to believe that someone would actually tell you that they were claiming children that did not belong to them on a food stamp case. You do have to provide social security numbers, birth certificates and other personal information that normally only a parent would have.

Just to clarify, I didn't start the thread to bash people on food stamps. My problem is with those who get them by illegal means. The people that I'm talking about ARE criminals and have always been criminals and the worst part is, they are using these children's names to get them (and not supporting the children in anyway)!

"I Do" and "Never Thought" are situations when I totally approve of them. When someone who has fallen on hard times needs them for a crutch or someone who does not have the support of another parent, etc. People who receive food stamps because they need them, not because they want to spend their own under-the-table money on things they want!

Never Thought: People are so nosy and judgmental! Keep your head up and know that you are the reason there are programs like this to assist HONEST people! Just because you drive a nice car or own a nice home, does not make you rich. In this economy, it's quite the contrary actually. Most everyone is living paycheck to paycheck and struggling to overcome the debt they incurred when the economy was better. I hope things turn around for you soon. I know how hard it can be to need assistance.

I can see why in an adult's situation it would be set up that way. They are two adults who want to only be responsible for themselves.

In this particular case, the adults in the household are all benefiting from using the children's names (children receive much more in food stamps than an adult would). They are relatives and had access to copies of the their birth certificates and social security numbers through their father who doesn't support them. I guess you could say in a twisted way, they're supporting him since he gets to eat well and the kids mother has to live paycheck to paycheck to feed them!
