Does anyone know who has the cheapest cigarettes in town? I had bought 5 cartons before the tax went up. I have checked the prices online, they are still too high.
Also, it was reported on Louisville news that two places were broken into the other night.
It's a shame to put the burden on smokers to fund low income families health insurance. I would rather the tax be put back on food.

Tax on food? You have to eat and have no choice in that. You don't have to smoke and can choose to quit. You have a choice there, so just quit and you won't have to pay the taxes. You don't have a choice if the tax is on food. It is that simple.

Do you mean to tell me you would have them raise taxes on food, just so you won't be out as much money. That is the STUPIDEST thing I have ever heard. Think of the kids and the elderly people that would have to go hungry if their caregivers or themselves cannot afford food.

Why should the cigarette smokers have to pay extra for everyone else? It's not right I don't care how you look at it. What gets me is that they will pay a basketball coach millions of dollars a year and can't give a few of it to the rest of us.

I hope they continue to raise taxes on cigarettes. There have been many illnesses in my family due to cigarettes and the rest of the family that are caregivers have to pay. Cigarettes can ruin your life, my family is living proof.

If an extra 30 to 40 cents a pack is gonna break you, then you probably don't have the money to spend on cigarettes anyway. If an extra 30 cents on that six pack of beer is going to put you in a financial crunch, then you probably need to start drinking water.

Isn't it ironic that most of the people who smoke and drink in excess are the ones who can least afford it financially?

Oh, and while we're at it, I think they should tax lottery tickets too....same thing.

Basketball coaches who make millions are paid with money from the TV networks and other sources like that. The networks are willing to shell out those amounts of money because the teams will draw a large TV audience. If the schools stop spending on the best coaches, the quality of the program goes down, and the TV network money dries up.

The bottom line is that these coaches enable their universities go generate millions in revenue.

You suggested that some of that money be given to you. Exactly what did you do for any university to justify their giving you money?

The state tax was 30-some cents increase but the Feds also increased their tax by 60-some cents. So the total increase is about $1.00 a pack or $10.00 a carton. That's not exactly a small increase.

Well I guess it is a good thing all these whinning smokers live in KY. If they lived in another state they would be all out of tears. I know of people that have been paying well over 5 dollars a pack for several years now. I would hate to see what they are paying now for them.

Amen to that. My mom was 49 when she had a heart attack due to her smoking since she was 13 or so. She still smokes and will continue to do so probably until she dies. It makes me so sad to see how young she is and how bad her health is. Glad I never started smoking. Never seen a good reason for it. So wasteful.

To the folks that do not believe there is a food tax, check the bottom of your reciepts... Word!

Oh, yeah, and the idea of the "Sin" Tax has been on going for some time inflicted by the rightous onto the lowly citizens. It's one of the many ways elected officials can "create" money...ie taxes, without having to think and take a risk!

You are clueless, UK revenue didn't go down but, their fan appreciation sure went down with Gillespie. I sure hope things get better with Callipari. I'm sure they will. He is a name brand coach with a pedigree.

What cave have you been living in?! The wholesale tax on alcohol was raised just a few years ago (five or six years ago, I think), and then the 6% sales tax was added this week. And YOU'RE CALLING OTHER PEOPLE "dipshit idjits"? That's pretty funny, dude. Well, either funny or pathetic.
