I read these posts and am surprised nothing has been stated about why this happened? Does anyone have info other than the shooter was a bad guy & the cop was flawless ?
I don't know either person. I have respect for anyone in uniform always have had. Have relatives & friends who serve. But I'm not foolish enough to believe a uniform makes the man. There's good & bad everywhere even in uniform. This cop sounds like he was a good guy.
So why did the shooter feel he needed to use his gun? Anyone know that answer? Anyone know facts? Was he out of his mind on drugs alcohol? Did the cop threats. Him? What would make anyone do something so stupid?
cop threats= yes of course stops people in middle of dark country road for fun.
what? could have got same pay for sitting eating donnuts, allowing armed criminals drive around all picking out who and what to do!
YOU ARE A PIECE OF shat! to even suggest your dep. sheriff threatened a criminal HOPE THE next criminal stops BY YOUR WELCOME MAT on your front porch!(thanks honest policeman of KY YOU have my support AND SORRY FOR OUR LOSS)!!!!!!!!!

I may be off base with this but from what I have heard, the shooter was depressed and stole his mothers car. He was said to be going to his Ex-wifes house. Well, I'm not Columbo but this is how I see it: steal moms car, heading to Ex-wifes home with a loaded handgun and soot a deputy sheriff on the way there. Sounds like a murder Of the Ex-wife was the plan, maybe murder-suicide and Officer Rakes was a casualty of bad fate. Just how it appears to me. Officer Rakes may have lost his own life and unknowingly saved the Ex-wifes.

Anthony was not stupid veetonn. He was a good man. We laid a great man to rest today because of a crazy man with a gun. Yes it is a chance each officer takes each day but they choose to be a police officer. That doesnt make them stupid. I hope someone in your family dies nad some a** calls them stupid for doing their job. Anthony was my cousin and he will be missed. He loved what he did and it is tragic.Tragic for all who knew him. Not just Anthony but any officer or military who lose their life in the line of duty.Be respectful to the family and keep smarta** comments to yourself. People lined the streets, many waving flags, to watch his escort to the cemetary to show respect.

Unfortunately, i have been on the wrong side of the law, and at times Anthony Rakes was one of the ones who did his job and locked me up. He was respectful and he was professional about how he did his job. He was one of the good ones and he was fair. He didn't deserve what happened to him. He was truly a good guy and I pray that on the other side, he was welcomed and honored for being the great man he truly was.

Dear Lord, help the ones that are showing direspect toward the dead. The bible states that sin is a sin no matter what it is...therefore race does not play a factor into the deaths of both parties...both victims was murdered, whether they seen it coming or not...or to put it in more perspective....Romans 13:1-5 states that governing officials are appointed by God and ministers of God...if you are afraid then do good for his ministers, the police, were put here not to oppress the good but bring the sword of wrath to those who practice evil....so please live a good life and prayers go out to both families in this time of tragedy....God bless you all and please..be mature n your actions and show respect for some of the families that may read this...Love you all and good night. p.s. a former Lebanon police Officer caught the person who murdered Anthony Rakes...God works in mysterious ways.....

You and many others should learn something from this. One was always in the middle of some sort of trouble. Looking to fight any chance he got. Been in and out of jail. The other??? Never heard his name mentioned with anything bad. A lot of people may have known David, but very few respected him. Anthony on the other hand, a lot of people knew him AND they also respected him. You asked the question. Let me ask one. What do you think is the difference? And just for this one instance, let's suppose that race is not a factor. What answer can you give me that does not include race????
first of all did you know david ? or have you just "heard" about david ?? without race being in the issue , There is still question to why this Raikes dude gets sympathy but david doesnt (other than davids close ones). yess david has history of wrong , but only to those (like YOU) who judged him and disrespected him. if people actually got to know david no one would have anythang so negative to say about David . David had it rough day by day . and was judged after mistakes in his past ! he would take his life for one he loved , cared or was associated with .( just the same as Raikes ) it may not have ben the same story but it was the same situation. Raikes lost his life after serving to the city and saving life. and etc. David died because he was trying to stop a fight between someone he knew and someone else (WHOM WERE WHITE). some want to say thats not what happened but iwas there i saw what happened . and i have NO reason to lie for the dead . david lost his life because he was trying to prevent a fight ...... now i dont see a bunch of difference there .
