We just bought a house and bought a mailbox to mount to house. The mailman informed us "this is not a walking route". I called post master and he confirmed cant deliver mail unless it is on a post by the road. He said something about cost. I think it is sad those postal workers make BIG money and cant walk to a mailbox a few feet. If I want mail, I have to get a mailbox on a post. The reason I didnt buy one to start with is because it says must be poured in concrete. It has taken all we have to move to this house. Dont have money, at this moment, to buy concrete or whatever needed so the poor mailman wont have to get out.

I guess you won't get your mail then. You should have checked before buying the box. It is not the fault of the Post Office that you didn't know. They can't make an exception and jump out of their delivery vehicle and take your mail to your door just because you think they make too much money. Things are tough all over.

Amanda, Amanda... Let me guess what you REALLY did. You bought a house with a mailbox on a post by the road. You thought: "Gee, why should I have to walk out here to get mail? Let the mailman walk to the house." Right? So you took the mailbox and attached it near your front door. Of course you didn't get any mail...

Very few people would take the mailbox with them when they move, you probably already had one out by the road.Could you even start to imagine how long it would take to deliver mail if everyone did what you are saying? Sounds like you need to get back to the city.

Concrete is $3 a bag. Or less for damaged bags at lowes. Get some, put the post up, and quit complaining.

I could be wrong but I don't think it has to be in concrete. If you pour it in concrete though, the pole must be able to break away from it or you could be in trouble if somebody hits it.

I don't want to walk the 50 feet to my mailbox. Its cold and Im lazy and I want everything handed to me. Im also too lazy to pull my car up to a mailbox on my way home from work and roll down my window and stick my arm out to get the mail. *eye roll

Well we have a mailbox. So I should have checked but honestly didnt think it made a difference what kind of box a person has and there is NO mailbox by the road for our house. I do live in the city of Cville. I am not too lazy to walk to the road, I just wanted a box on my house. I think I answered all the comments.

Just wait and see, if they need to save more money, you might have to walk a bit to a centralized location where a bunch of boxes are all together in one long line.

Speeds up delivery if the mail carrier doesn't have to stop every 100 feet for separate boxes.

Amanda, if you bought a house that did not have its own box along the road like the rest of the houses in your neigborhood, its possible the previous owner just kept a post office box at the Post Office....therefore not needing to be concerned with putting up a roadside box.

I am back to vent. We put our mailbox out by the road. All the other mailboxes are on the opposite the road from the houses. We diddehe same. The mailman informed us today we had to move post and all because of computers or something and he couldnt deliver to that side of the street. Now how is it all the other houses are opposite the mailboxes? So we moved it,had to pull post out of a 4ft hole and dig another through rock and concrete put in our yard by the side of the road. Now I will have to walk my "lazy a**" as everyone thinks to ck the mail. I dont mind walking but come on? It was on a post like they asked.

Come on now you're saying everybody's mailbox is the other side of the street from yours? You don't put your mailbox across from your house always. They are only on one side of the street. At this rate you'll never find your mailbox LOL.
