On Monday as I was leaving my house in the city limits I noticed the garbage men all huddled behind the truck and they were going through people's trash. There were three or four of them behind the truck and they were perusing through the trash bags.

Be careful about what you throw out in terms of credit card statements or bills or even old prescription pill bottles and the like.

Anything with my name and/or address on it is put through a shredder. Nothing goes into the trash that indicates where that trash comes from. You can find shredders at Wal Mart or any other large store. I recommend the ones that cross-shred instead of the ones that just cut the paper into strips.
It is a pain sometimes tearing the labels off of magazines and papers and putting all that junk mail where they plaster your name all over the advertizing through the shredder, but it is worth it.

If you have a burn pile, burn those paper documents up.

Some of the guys are looking for aluminum cans. Sometimes there is a big contractors size trash bag tied on the back of the truck and aluminum cans are being put into it. I know this because I've seen them retrieve the cans from the trash and put into this bag. Not everyone is looking for bank statements or pills.

very unprofessional and nasty, they should be turned in since you have to pay for their services.

You may pay for their services, but once it's out of your house and in their hands to be collected there's not much you can say or do. Hence the word 'garbage'. Not trying to sound like a bitch but its the truth. Not everybody is out to get you when they did thru the bags. Like said before, they were probly digging out cans. Most of the garbage companies use inmates that are out on work release so they don't get paid as much as other trash collectors. So maybe they haul off the cans from your garbage to make a little extra money for canteen...

thanks for the added info. I now put the cans where they can get them more easily. Nothing wrong with collecting cans for cash. I wouldn't tell on anyone for working to make a few dollars.

You're welcome. I once asked our trash guys why they go thru it and they told me they were work release and they collect anything that can be recycled.:) have a great night!

These are NOT inmates. They are city employees. And even if it is just looking for cans it still looks bad. Period.

And if that's the case, then Campbellsville should implement curbside recycling like every othe progressive minded town.

If you live in the city yes they should. But how would you know these are city employees and not work release inmates? Their attire is no different. I live in the country and I know for a fact our are work release.

Because the city has a Sanitation Crew on payroll. They are City Employees.

And, even IF they are inmates on Work Release then going through the trash just makes it that much worse!

Don't you find it the least bit disturbing that a jail inmate is pilfering through trash in which people could have thrown something away, even accidentally, with their personal information on it? I wouldn't think it excuses a worker just because they are an inmate on work release. In fact, quite the contrary...they should NOT be permitted to do that and should simply throw the bags in the truck without opening them.

From this point forward I will be burning anything that could lead to my identity or personal information being obtained by the trash collectors. I have a charcoal grill and live in the city. I'll just burn my papers in that grill. Problem solved.

And why can't the county have recycling pickup as well?

As usual this city and county are divided on everything and never can work together on anything. People are so narrow minded here and always have that "us against them" mentality.

And you wonder why we don't have anything here in terms of industry or good restaurants or good jobs? There ya go.

Idk. I wish we did have recycling services out here. It'd make things a lot easier. Which I already recycle my cans and stuff like tht but you're right they make differences between the city and county.

Yup. Nobody works together in this community. I don't know if it's because of the school rivalries or what but I kinda think the Cville vs Taylor is where that it all starts. We just aren't very progressive as a community overall.

any inmate that is out on work release with the city has to wear a neon yellow shirt that says INMATE on the back.. so yeah, you can tell a difference.. and i'm not trying to be a bitch either, i'm just saying.

Hart county inmates that are on work release don't. They pick up our trash. We live on the outskirts if green co
