The Peach Fair has been cancelled this year. Buddy Mac came into the store today to pick up the arm bands and told me that the owner of the carnival rides had a heart attack a few days ago and passed away. All the other festivities will continue in the community center, and if you bought an arm band they will refund your money there. Just thought I'd let you know.

Seems to me they could've gotten someone else to come to town with rides,,wonder if its just that they don't want to bother with it? Sorry to hear about the man with the carnival rides. But it really sucks cause everyone looks forward to the peach festival and its not going to be the same this year,,it sucks! Now the fair board will charge everyone to go to the pagents at the community building,,gotta make their money somehow! Wonder how all the churches feel since they've probably already bought all their supples??

Why did they have to change carnivals anyway They cant get much more rides at the park anyway. Guess the mayor thought we needed a change we may have needed a change but look what we got I always thought the Peach Fair was for the kids!

The Peach Fair IS for the kids AND the town!!! Do you really want to put your kids on rides that are CONSTANTLY breaking down and literally flying apart?????? Yes, that is what you would have got with the same carnival rides as before. The carnival needed a change, if for nothing else, the SAFETY of our children!!!! Check into it with other towns in the area that has used them; or the locals who have FIXED the same thing in every town, every year!!!!???

Do you want to fault a family-run business for the man dying suddenly? What would you do?

By the way, the mayor has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Peach Fair Board decisions. He is an honorary member due to the fact he is mayor--ALL mayors have had this distinction.

The Peach Fair starts wednesday. I would think most places would need a whole lot more than just four days to be able to make it.
just awful

Why cancel it?Could they not just put it off for a week?I have lived here 29 years and I have never not been to the peach fair.I think i look forward to it just as much as the kids do.Not that i ride rides, but you get to see alot of your friends that you havent seen in a while. It's like a big family reunion. And the food, that is the only week of the year I don't have to cook super every night. There was a funnel cake calling my name lol.I don't think they will have a very good turn out at all with out the carnival,i could be wrong.I know i wont be taking my kids up to the community center, they dont like to sit still and watch pagaents anyway. This is like taking away christmas or something.

Fact is, yeah the fair is for the kids,,and some adults enjoy going also but now they have nothing to look forward too! There are other carnival owners around that the fair board could've gotten in contact with but didn't!!!! But oh,,thats right, MOST of the fair board is 1 FAMILY,,so go figure!

What an ass..... Seems like someone is a little jealous. Hey Sparky, get up and do something yourself. Maybe you could have saved the Peach Fair single handedly.

If no one wants to hear about "Rayme" then why did you bring him up in another forum? What a loser. I have read all of your remarks so far and all are negative. Sounds like just another white trash jealous soul. I pity you. Maybe someday you will make something of your life so that you won't have to attack others to make youself feel good.

Oh good grief start griping on this one now. Rayme has nothing to do with this poor man's misfortune. Can't a person even die without the same bunch on here starting a bunch of junk. Grow up. Act like you are a person in front of your children. Use this as a learning experience. Explain what happened. Do some thing else with the kids. If you continue this route, they will grow up negative just like you.
Take them to what we do have going on. I have never heard of grown ups acting so rediclous over a poor man passing away.
Use the money the kids had saved to do something else. Show them how people can make lemonade from lemons. I can't believe you all. The Fair board did all they could. They can't work miracles.

There are several places around Poplar Bluff that have the inflatable bouncy houses, slides, velcro jumps, etc. There are lots of things that can be done without a carnival company. They would only take a day or two to organize. The carnival is nice, but given the circumstances, an attempt to salvage any bit of fun for the kiddos would be appreciated.
The city would be sued by the first person hurt... Unfortunally, there's been a tragedy in this Carnivals family. We as a city, need to realize it's something that couldn't be helped, and respect this family's loss and make the best of it. It won't be the same, but there's proably a reason for this and we have to accept it. Whatever you were going to spend up there, go take your kids somewhere for the day. Doesn't mean you can't have family time. I'm sure there's carnivals in other surrounding towns.
Thank you to the Peach Board for our past festivals and hopefully next years will be the best, and thanks for all the hard work you put into it..

Okay JPM, what exactly do you wish for the peach fair board to do, the man was laid to rest on Saturday. So to find a replacemtent carnival on monday, so that they can be here on tuesday, to start the carnival on wednesday, would be near impossible, sure they could probably find some fly by night, flea infested outfit, but do you want your kids/grandkids to ride those kind of rides? The carnival's are booked months in advance, heck the carnivals are sometimes booked years in advance and for years at a time. It is very unfortunate that this happened, but the pagents are not the only things in the community building, the talent show, and the gospel singing will be there as well. I understand the dissapointment, I felt it, as well as did my kids, but so is life, stuff happens.

I hope this will place the blame on the Peach Fair Board. You say no but, this was a Year ago that this was scheduled to take place. You get a contract from a Carnival to come to your town no matter what happens. I can not even think that this carnival can not operate with one man gone. There were only three rides last year that came to town that were big. The rest of the rides were kid rides that most Carnival people have on a little truck. Rest of the open trailers were food and games to play to win a toy. What is wrong with the rest of the carnival coming to town.
The first place Campbell has nothing in the park for a Fair. Years ago the contest were in the Park on the stage. People came to see this and for some reason it is out of the Park ? The fair is advertized for two weeks and they can't have one day in the park because the Carnival is not coming to town. If the Fair board would get off of there ass and get some Crafts in the Park and let people come to sell things without charging them $200.00 dollars to set up it would be a nice Fair. You say not so ? Brosley has a Good turn out to there Fair as of Home coming, Qulin has a good fair as to there Home coming, McDougal has a fair and St Francis has one. Not one I talk about has a Carnival , so Campbell needs to get some people who know how to plan a Fair. Two weeks is a joke, Don't you think ? It all started out on the week end years ago but look at it today. They drove it in the ground, it became NOTHING.

Piggott has a small fair in the fall every year. Long time ago they had alot of rides, but the last few yrs. its been smaller, but there is much more to do than ride rides. I agree that you could set up booths to sell crafts, homemade breads & desserts, wood products and ADVERTISE in advance to draw a crowd from around the area. I'm sure you could get a small carnival for the eventPiggott always has alot of exhibits to show and win ribbons for. I'm sorry the carnival is cancelled, but this was probably a family owned business and the wife was in mourning & unable to go on with plans. And you ppl should be a little more compassionite. Take your kids to Paragould water park or Poplar Bluff. There will be a big Kennet fair with lots of rides coming up plus you could plan on the Sikeston rodeo. There are alot of alternatives to make up for this carnival being cancelled.

Why not just postpone it for 2-3 weeks and do the Carnival on a weekend,Fri, Sat and maybe Sunday - or just Fri and Sat. They could even still plan something for Labor day weekend to give the town something to look forward to. Like many on here have said - it doesnt have to be anything big.
