And what may I ask, are you doing with your life my dear? The kids are working hard- regardless of what your opinion is. They're good kids who could just as easily be doing nothing with their lives. I don't think people are quitting- I think the band is smaller because quite a few kids these days don't respect authority and have no want or need to be a part of something and some parents are just fine with that. If you don't like it- get involved. Volunteer your precious time to show the directors how to run the band. I respect the fact that you have an opinion- we ALL have an opinion, but you're spending large amounts of your time picking on kids and the directors when you have no real clue as to what is really truly going on. These kids participate in band because they enjoy it- they don't have to be there. And then people come on this website and talk down on their hard work and tell them they are no good it makes me and plenty of others sick. Who cares what you or the other naysayers really think? What would you have them do? What is your solution? Please enlighten everyone with your infinite wisdom- and this doesn't just go out to you but to all the negative posters out there. Who not only talk about the kids in band, but also the football players and cheerleaders. These kids are at least participating and doing SOMETHING.. My question again is what are you doing to fix the problems you so adamantly continue to point your finger at?
a bit self-righteous, aren't we?

I really don't care if I make you sick. Truth be told, you make me sick as well because you're willing to accept mediocrity. As has been stated, I'm glad the kids are involved, and I never said they weren't good, I said they could be better - there's a difference. If you don't want a better band and willing to accept things as they are, so be it, that's your choice.

In my opinion, I blame the band director. Kids are no different than they were 30 years ago, but the school keeps getting stuck with substandard teachers. He's a good man and we're lucky to have him, but he's doing the best he can with what he has. UHS has many good educators, but the reason they're in Uvalde is because it's either a step up or a step out. UCISD doesn't pay their teachers enough to make them stay. They're either using this time to put on their resume until they move on, or they're waiting for retirement. It's the same with football and cheerleading. We're lucky to have a decent coach this year, and we have a good cheerleading sponsor who is only there because the school can't find anyone else who'll do the job for what they pay. Don't forget we had all those good teachers leave three years ago because the administration didn't appreciate them.

Let's face it. UCISD doesn't have the best of reputations when it comes to attracting upper-level teachers. The good teachers don't want to work here and I don't blame them.

As for spending my time here, that's what this forum is for, isn't it?

Why pound on a person who has not cause any mayhem, havoc, and chaos to the other law abiding Citizens of this school district and this community. The Band Director has a better character, self respect, and integrity than any of the Royalties who have been bottle fed by the tax payers of this school district.

Why not? You do it all the time.

You have your "royalties," I have mine. Or is it that you want to be the only one that can bitch about others and get away with it by labeling it as "expressing an opinion"?

So you want the taxpayers to bottle feed your Royalties while your pushing other people, less privileged than your Royalties, out of this school district and ultimately out of Uvalde? That is being plain arrogant and stupid. Another way of causing havoc, mayhem and chaos to other law abiding people of this community while fattening up your Royalties with thousands if not millions of taxpayers' money. It works all the time.

Sorry but all the talent left with the class of '08 except for a select few of the under classmen...sorry but these kids don't have the talent and the ones that do quit because of the band directors...this goes for mariachi as well, so much talent being turned off by directors or them not knowing what to do with it...such a waste....look back and honestly compare them to the others when they were thier age...

This is already 2012 almost 2013 . You can no longer force the rest of the community to follow your arrogant and stupid thoughts and ideation. Confine what you want to say or implying in your propaganda paper because that is where your thoughts belong. You must be one of those Royalties getting lost in Uvalde Topix. The good reason why you cannot give a single idea on how to stop the arrogance and stupidity that are plaguing the rest of the community for decades.

and what's your reason for always coming back to the same thing. why should I even bother with someone who clearly doesn't have the mental capacity to understand what someone else is saying?

What you people have been saying is the same voice , same thoughts and same tone of arrogance and stupidity for decades. So what kind of response and posting would you expect from other people in the community?

An irony is not a good idea to stop the arrogant and stupid people who are causing havoc, mayhem and chaos which are plaguing this school district and the rest of other people in the community for decades.

Any definition of irony will not help stop the arrogance and stupidity that are plaguing this school district and the rest of other people of the Uvalde community either.

This is how I feel. I luckily went to a school at a time where directors cared about talent and pride. It hysterically saddens me.

At first, you have shown strong, great and very articulated desires and interests to post ideas on how to stop the arrogance and stupidity that are plaguing this school district and the rest of the community for decades which have greatly affected the education of all the children here in Uvalde. But now it appears that you are straying, shying, arrogantly and stupidly running away from it. You are one of the best posters here in Uvalde Topix who can best articulate those ideas. As you may know, many people and children were affected and suffered from these arrogant and stupid ways and practices. What is going on and wrong with you my friend?

thanks, but, like you, there seems to be no hope for these people. The one who do know what they're doing don't stay, and the ones that don't aren't going anywhere. It's the blind leading the blind out there and anyone with half a brain stays as far from it as possible.

The key to getting the school in order is have the parents get involved, but that's not going to happen. The key to getting the town in shape is having the community get involved, but with the town being as ghetto as it is, people don't know how to help others because they're too busy struggling just to stay alive. They still haven't figured out that if they would only get together and become organized, it'd be a good start to solving their problems.

As you've said before, people are too arrogant, ignorant and some are just plain stupid. There are a lot of good people in town, but they don't care enough to change things, and sadly, it happened when the Hispanic population passed 75%. While most Hispanics don't want to admit it, the Anglos in town were the ones keeping it going. Say what you want about white people, but they know how to organize and get involved. I'm not saying that Hispanics can't do the same thing, but for whatever reason, it's not happening. Hispanics can't seem to get their act together.

Anyway, want my answer? Here it is...
Teach the parents and you'll teach the kids. Problem solved.
