a bit self-righteous, aren't we?<quoted text>
And what may I ask, are you doing with your life my dear? The kids are working hard- regardless of what your opinion is. They're good kids who could just as easily be doing nothing with their lives. I don't think people are quitting- I think the band is smaller because quite a few kids these days don't respect authority and have no want or need to be a part of something and some parents are just fine with that. If you don't like it- get involved. Volunteer your precious time to show the directors how to run the band. I respect the fact that you have an opinion- we ALL have an opinion, but you're spending large amounts of your time picking on kids and the directors when you have no real clue as to what is really truly going on. These kids participate in band because they enjoy it- they don't have to be there. And then people come on this website and talk down on their hard work and tell them they are no good it makes me and plenty of others sick. Who cares what you or the other naysayers really think? What would you have them do? What is your solution? Please enlighten everyone with your infinite wisdom- and this doesn't just go out to you but to all the negative posters out there. Who not only talk about the kids in band, but also the football players and cheerleaders. These kids are at least participating and doing SOMETHING.. My question again is what are you doing to fix the problems you so adamantly continue to point your finger at?
I really don't care if I make you sick. Truth be told, you make me sick as well because you're willing to accept mediocrity. As has been stated, I'm glad the kids are involved, and I never said they weren't good, I said they could be better - there's a difference. If you don't want a better band and willing to accept things as they are, so be it, that's your choice.
In my opinion, I blame the band director. Kids are no different than they were 30 years ago, but the school keeps getting stuck with substandard teachers. He's a good man and we're lucky to have him, but he's doing the best he can with what he has. UHS has many good educators, but the reason they're in Uvalde is because it's either a step up or a step out. UCISD doesn't pay their teachers enough to make them stay. They're either using this time to put on their resume until they move on, or they're waiting for retirement. It's the same with football and cheerleading. We're lucky to have a decent coach this year, and we have a good cheerleading sponsor who is only there because the school can't find anyone else who'll do the job for what they pay. Don't forget we had all those good teachers leave three years ago because the administration didn't appreciate them.
Let's face it. UCISD doesn't have the best of reputations when it comes to attracting upper-level teachers. The good teachers don't want to work here and I don't blame them.
As for spending my time here, that's what this forum is for, isn't it?
