Hi all. I used to live in Phoenix, and have visited Sedona, Prescott, and some other small towns in AZ. I've never visited Camp Verde, but I'm intrigued by the idea of getting a parcel of land on the river and building a home there to slow down the pace of life. I'm currently working way out on the east coast, so I'm not able to just drive there to visit and check it out like I used to be able to do.

My question is... is Camp Verde known as a relatively nice little town? Are the schools, and other factors, Ok for raising a family there? Or does it have some undesireable reputation or factors about it? How does it compare to surrounding towns such as Prescott, Cottonwood, Sedondo, Flagstaff, etc? I know Flag has a lot more jobs in comparison, but the commute seems doable to Flag from Camp Verde (for example, for a nurse to get a job in Flag).

Thanks for any insights!

Matt,

Camp Verde is a nice little town, however with only one grocery store and a couple dollar stores all your main shopping and things would need to be done in Cottonwood, at least there is a Wal-Mart and a couple grocery stores there. Flagstaff is about an hours drive away from the Verde Valley and can be a hazardous drive during the winter months as they can get a lot of snow.

What age are your children? Cornville is about 10 minutes from Cottonwood and has a wonderful K-8 school there, in fact I live in Cottonwood and keep my children enrolled in the Cornville School.

The job market here is pretty low right now, depending on your proffesion. But you can always commute between Sedona, Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Prescott, etc...

Good Luck!

You are near EVERYTHING in Camp Verde, wish I could have bought there! It's very nice, quiet, peaceful,I love the 30 mile drive there for cleaner shopping than Yavapai County south of there.Camp Verde has the BEST Dollar General as far as layout, and such GOOD building and existing home sites along the creek. Best to ya, Matt!

Verde Valley Native & Love My Dog... thank you for the replies! The people in the area must be nice :) I'm intrigued by the area, since I prefer a bit smaller town environment than what's offered in Phoenix. Maybe I'll be able to enjoy it someday and relo there.

VV Native... I don't have kids yet, but was just wondering what the schools or school systems were like in the opinions of others, so thank you very much for the views!

Matt, I live in the Verde and work in Flagstaff. I have been doing that for the last 16 years. 1 hour going north and 1 hour and 15 going home in the afternoon because of traffic. Winters are mild here in Arizona, compared to northern winters. Give the snow a couple of hours and it's gone with the sun rise. Although late nite travel can be a little efy in the northland because of ice. We love the verde valley, and are glad we moved here. FYI: There's also nursing jobs in Cottonwood.

Try under trends and community information, under Trulia.com .
You can get parents ratings of the schools.
Best of luck, plan, do it!

for Matt-I wonder if there is a shuttle bus out of and to Camp Verde(there are in Sedona), which are generally less cost than your own daily gas and wear and tear. Best trust them, as they are highway experienced in winter, should you need transport to work in Flagstaff or elsewhere with you knowing the weather conditions the evening before.
I've ridden on shuttles elsewhere not far from CV and found them everytime reliable. They can handle the conditions better.
