you might want to call were your horses are at and ask them how close the fire is to them

If the 5 closes it won't be till late night, b/c I live SW of the fires, pretty much on the 5, just at the Main Gate (On the south border of base and Oside.

Anyhow, there are still a couple/few miles and HOUSING areas it would have to burn through depending on it's path before it reached I-5.

Isn't the purpose of this site to help one another??

For you folks who have made unnecessary comments about our soldiers, don't you have anything better to do??

I love how people always point the finger at others, especially towards those who sacrifice so much. Really???

I think we should pray for the marines, and their safety. God Bless America, and our Soldiers!

I live on Camp Pendleton and I am enjoying the nice glow of orange flames from my living room! The golf course has been evacuated and it's getting extremely close to base housing. Our power went out and now it's back on. Seems like we're going to be getting the evacuation notice VERY soon here...Of course knowing the military they will be waiting until one of our houses is on fire to evacuate an entire housing development.

Where on the base is 'mainside' and which mountain? Elderly mom lives in Fallbrook, off Hillcrest, above Circle K. Previous fires came down the canyon behind her house. Mom says it's really smoky there. Where is the fire relative to Fallbrook?

Im tired of these idiots not being smart enough to engage in weed control on the base to keep these fires from breaking out. They have no concern for the people downwind that have to breathe and choke on their damn smoke. Fire the base commander!

Linda -

Go on Google Maps, and look up Oceanside, then scan up to see Camp Pendleton.

Fallbrook is to the East. You should be able to see the GOlf Course on The Base, in the south central region, just west of Vandergrift just as Vendergrift continues off base.

The fire is or was south west of the Golf Course. If Santa Ana winds do in fact take effect, then the fires will continue west, and Fallbrook will be in the clear.

****:
They don't have weed control on the base, it's a nature preserve/conservation area. So they can't "mow it".
You cannot control the weather, it was very hot today with low humidity and windy. Perfect combo of fire weather.
Take a look at the Cal Fire page to learn more instead of going off on a tangent that it very innappropriate for the situation.

Listen here dipshit, why don't you get your punny butt out there and fight for the country. What makes you assume they started the fire. Get life and a grip

As far as i know there were NO training excercises involving ANYTHING that would start a fire in that area! I live right behind where it is burning on the South side near the coast. So when there out there training you would be able to here their weapons and such going off. Like someone else already said... if you want to complain about fires on Camp Pendleton then go enlist in the Marines! The weather here has been really hot these last few days... Camp Pendleton's fires are no different than the fires that go on off base!

i wish the tv news felt these fires were news worthy...a house has to burn first b4 it becomes 'news'. I see the flames from my house in fallbrook, i'm by the high school, it is probably 3 miles away but no way controlled. Any wind and it's da ja vu one year anniversary...get ready...and be safe.

This is the only decent info I've seen posted:
"Thee fire is burning inside the main gate across the street from the horse stables. It is over 200 acres. They have shut down base access into the base from Vandegrift. They have evacuated the K-9 dog unit stationed just inside the gate and are working on evacuating the stables. The Serra Mesa Housing unit has ash covered cars and people are voluntarily leaving. It is huge and near the main populated area of the base. The roads to the golf course are blocked off and it's scary to see how close the fires are to the housing units. It's also very hard to breathe. Remember base housing has no air conditioning."

My husband is out there working on the fire right now. They have a line that if it crosses they will be evacuating this side of the base all the way up to De Luz housing. My husband told me to pack a bag just in case but he is not worried right now. The winds are blowing in a NE direction which blows it towards Fallbrook - but please note it is no where near Fallbrook currently. I'm sure like every other fire here the Marines will shut it down quickly and efficiently.

For those of you asking about Oceanside the fire is closest to the gate nearest to the Vandegrift/Douglas intersection but it is blowing in the opposite direction.

i am so sick of people whining about the military. you are all the same idiots who would never put your lives on hold or in jeopardy to protect this country because you are too busy reaping the benefits from it. like driving your $50,000 cars and building homes on the sides of mountains then complaining about mudslides. you act like you are entitled to more than those who make less money than you and treat people like crap.

So, there are no mandatory evacuations at this time?
