Welfare programs in the United States originated in the 1930s with President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and had two components: social insurance (Social Security and unemployment insurance) and public assistance (Aid to Dependent Children, Aid to the Blind, etc.). Distinction between different types of women was there from the start: needy widows, seen as deserving, were given payments through Social Security, while needy divorced and single moms, seen as immoral and irresponsible, were put on the quickly stigmatized ADC (which later became AFDC and today is TANF- the assistance program whose cash benefit component is “bankrupting our country” and generally making racist, sexist citizens positively apoplectic). Monitoring and control of poor mothers was there from the start, too: until the 1960s, several states dropped moms from ADC for having a relationship with a man (today, several states are seeking drug-testing of welfare recipients).

But the entire War on Welfare is built on a boogeyman- that of the resource-draining, undeserving poor mom. |

Yes Dan the man is paranoid. He is judging other people from what he does. Because he is a multiple poster, he assumes others do it. He seems to be obsessed with me, he thinks I'm Julie and Lauren. I went back and found that it's Julia, not Julie, and her isp address was Moscow. Lauren's isp was Chambersburg. There was another female poster, Lisa. I'm surprised he didn't mention her. Her isp was not Newville, but I'm sure Dan will think I'm her too. I don't have computer knowledge like West Mifflin with his ability to change isp addresses. I am Marisa with an isp of Newville. Three polls show Obama widening lead over Romney
Updated: Friday, August 10, 3:15 PMThe Washington Post Three polls released in the last 24 hours show President Obama widening his lead over the former Massachusetts governor to as much as nine points. The surveys of registered voters, all conducted sometime between Aug. 2 and 8, also have Romney’s unfavorable ratings headed north. Two of the polls show his support among independents slipping. A Fox News poll found the largest deficit, with Romney trailing by nine points (49 percent to 40 percent) That’s the widest gap Fox has reported all year. Its July survey had Obama up by four points (45 percent to 41 percent). Fox found that Obama’s increasing advantage comes mainly on the strength of a big bump from independents, who now support the president by 11 points, up from four points in July. Gov. Romney faces from the voters of general election a huge trust deficit . The polls here shows that for Romney that " ...71 percent said they were either “somewhat” or “not at all” comfortable. " The general perception amongst the people in general about Romney has developed over time that , he is no friend of the middle class, poor and disadvantaged . Romney is friends with the rich , and he is out of touch with the day to day problems of people on the main streets and in Communities , who are suffering led by financial melt down and economic recession . Romney also is not sensitive enough on issues' of deep concern to the poor , disadvantaged , the middle class , unemployed and underemployed . Gov. Romney never had a plan for tax rate reforms and tax cuts for the middle class , health care Affordable Act reforms , immigration Dream Act reforms . Romney has been on both sides of every major issues during and after Republican presidential primary nomination process . There is a pattern here re. Women rights , Gay rights . Romney lacks in common sense on foreign policy issues . The matters of War and peace as was evident on his recent trip to U. K. Israel and Poland , and he created controversies with his stance on many issues . Republicans and their nominee for 2012 presidential contest Gov . Romney all added together faces a very challenging presidential campaign for the next two and half months . |
