I am so sorry that you cannot seem to understand that the way things are at LW now are not what you are saying. You don't go there and haven't for the past 25+ years and you don't have a child there. I, however, have two children there and what you are saying is simply not true.<quoted text>
Even when I attended LWMA their were a few kids that liked the school. There are two reasons for this.
The first reason is that they have been so institutionalized and indoctrinated (brainwashed) into this program, that they don't want to leave. This also happens in state prisons.(it needs to be noted that LWMA is a prison. Most of these kids aren't there by choice, and they have no personal freedom whatsoever.)
The second reason is because they have moved up in rank, and they enjoy the extreme power that they have over their peers. This is probably the most common reason. This is the most power that they will ever have in their lives. Adults don't wield this much power over other adults.
When you were there, was there a large parent involvement? We have a huge amount of parents that are involved in the school and that are there. We have relationships with the teachers, staff, TAC's, administration, etc. We can contact them all 24 hours a day.
When you were there, did the student body have cell phones? All of the boys have cell phones there. They contact us parents daily!
When you were there, did you go on snow skiing trips? Canoe trips? Trips to colleges? Our kids do all of these things.
When you were there, did you have pizza parties? Halloween parties? Christmas parties? Valentine's Day parties? Easter parties? Our kids do all of these.
When you were there, were you allowed to take college classes? Our kids have dual enrollment and take clases toward their college degree.
When you were there, was the board of trustees interactive with the parents? Ours is. They include us in things. I was personally iin attendance of the interviews that were held for the new president of the school.
I do not know how things were in the PAST, but I do know how things are in the HERE AND NOW and they are not as you are saying. Perhaps you should come to Military Day and observe some of the things that LWMA now is doing. You have to understand that we have a good school and my boys are not the only ones there by choice. I think you would be surprised at how many boys are there by choice and like the school. It's a large percentage of the boys and not only that, but the boys that are not there by choice, a huge amount of them end up liking it.
Several of us parents take a carload of boys home with us on the open weekends and they all have a great time. Things are great! I am sorry you choose to not accept that.
