El Segundo Unified School District Superintendent Geoff Yantz issued a Q&A letter filled with semantics and misleading information, stating, "the El Segundo Teachers Union has denied the request to meet with the district." Why should they? The district has posted a divisive attack on the district educators; has offered zero dollars out of an $11 ...

Considering the TUSD and its board members (Don Lee, Terry Ragins, Mark Steffen, Michael Ernst, Al Muratsuchi) knew this information a long time ago "With cuts of $6.1 million in 2008-2009 and $7.8 million in 2009-2010." the TUSD School Board decided to hand out raises anyway in January 2008, to the tune of $4 million.

I guess they figured the endless supply of money would never end ... Their answer, raise taxes ....

sounds like the same way they dealt with the closing of the Hull campus - they knew it was coming, but chose to wait hoping that magically the circumstances would change, then they wouldn't have to deal with it. Sounds like their SOP.

Perhaps parent in the TUSD who do not like what is occuring should open their wallets and pay a "fee" for their children to attend schools. After all, we all pay a "fee" to drive the roads, a "fee" to park in public lots, and a "fee" to use and enjoy California State Parks, for instance.

I'm confused by your response. Is it that you don't believe his claim and can prove it to be false or that you just prefer to not face it?

According to http://www.ed-data.k12.ca.us , TUSD spent $218M in 2006-2007. They spent $226M in 2007-2008. That's an $8M increase. This appears to be ANOTHER example of a budget "cut" actually being a reduction in planned INCREASE.

Let's say you are purchasing a house, and the inspector finds some major issues with the foundation and structure, would you...

A: Want the inpsector to tell you the truth and reveal his findings ??

or

B: Keep the truth from you and just rubber stamp the inspection report ???

I resent that some of these TUSD parents judged my post as clueless and nuts. You people need to get your heads out of the sand (being nice). I'm a former TUSD parent - and I'd bet that most of you have kids in elementary or middle school. That's the age when everything seems to be fine, you volunteer in the classroom, you do all the fundraisers, the carnivals, the jogathons, etc., and you have sympathy for these school teachers who have a very difficult job. Yes, a classroom of youngsters is a difficult job, but they knew that when they signed up. After they don't need you anymore, they will yank the rug right out from under you, which they did to me and my daughter between the 9th and 10th grades. Furthermore, I went to the meetings. I have a stake in not wanting the Levy neighborhood overrun with a middle school that wasn't planned out. So you just show your stupidity when you call me nuts and clueless, because that's the information that I got from the SCHOOL BOARD!!! They were warned by the state many years ago that they would have to close Hull. They threw the dice and they lost.

Your kind of mentality is what got people into the financial crisis everyone is experiencing. People not checking numbers too afraid to look at the facts.

Exactly! and a little sick of the people who judge other's posts as "clueless" and "nuts" when they don't have the intelligence or courage to write a post of their own. And that "it's for the kids" mentality is done, washed up, old, useless. That's exactly why we need to fight for a better system of accountability in the schools - for the kids.

This one's for you Y and Z - Being the only voice in the wilderness does not make one wrong.

Keep your convictions, when you know full well you are not wrong. It isn't always easy, but at least you can hold your head up with a clear conscience. Simply - it is either right or wrong.
