I see so many dogs in town chained outside day in and day out. I lived in town for a short period of time and I lived next to someone who had a german sheperd tied to a tree. Id sit outside in the mornings having coffee/reading the paper, and watched as this dog sat there day in and day out with no one ever giving her attention. A little girl about 10 would come out with 2 bowls and drop them chain lenght, by the time the dog got to the bowls she was already inside. This happened once a day. I started taking water over to her threw the day. The dog was so skinny, hair matted, and shy for the longest time. One day the little girl came outside as I was sitting there pettin this dog. The dog had her head on my lap, calm as could be. I asked the little girl if this was her dog. She said yeah, but I dont like her cuz she too BIG. As we were talking her father came out. Looking at me kindof weird because I was sitting there with the dog.
I asked him point blank. Do you want this dog, without hesitating he said no. I told him Id like to take her. He said fine. And he also told me she wasnt house broken and that she was about 3 yrs old. I went into my apartment got a shoe string and went out and took the tight coller off of her and brought her into my apartment. Put her in the bath tub, she had 2 ticks and alot of fleas. Matted hair. I cut the matts out. Brushed her and all she did was lay there. All done I put her in my bedroom. Went to K-mart bought a BIGGER Coller, leash and food. When I came back she was layin on my bed, looking at me with those big brown eyes. I kept telling her she has a better life now and to trust me, because she was very shy. I took her for a walk, she never pulled on the leash, walked right next to me, as she knew that was what she was suppose to do. The people who had her loooked on as it was a different dog as I walked down the street. From the day I took her from that tree she never once did a mishap in my apartment. It took her a few days to actully eat her food twice a day. She was interested but took caution. All I did was talk to her. sayin it was ok and to eat. Her ribs, back bone and hips showed so badly. I gave it two weeks and took her to the vet. She had a bad case of worms. Gave her some worm med. and her shots and within a month she has perked up and now is a happy go lucky dog. It takes people to be responable. Theres so many neglected animales in this town. Cats roaming the streets, dogs tied outside. why have an animale if thats all your gonna do is throw them outside. Its not just pitbulls. Ive seen all kinds of big dog breeds tied outside. I never see a toy dog tied outside. If you want a dog get a dog that fits your family. not just any dog. Just because it looks cute as a puppy. They do grow up. Now I live outside of bath in the country. She and I sit outside in the morning while I drink my coffee and read the paper. And she goes everywhere I go.It takes Responsiblty to have any animale. If you dont have that, dont get an animale...

Thanks for you! What a nice story of making change instead of blaming and complaining!
