I almost fainted when I heard about Mrs. Kemper. I live in Cameron and I am a student at CHS, and I have tried to blow this off, but her death hit home. I think that we should stop pointing fingers and start working together to find a solution. It is not the water, and I don't think it is cell phones (the 8 year old boy and the old farmer from the news don't seem like the cell phone using type.) It could be the schools, or a resturant, or walmart, or orchlens, or the park ect ect ect. It is clear that something needs to be done. But I am not gonna lie, I am scared.

I'm with you Girl from Cameron. Mrs Kempers death shed a new light on this whole thing. For one, first and foremost we need to be thinking of the families that are going through this, especially the Kemper family! For two, we need to be looking and researching all aspects of this situation and not just the water. And we definitely need to be praying for all those affected bye this which would be the entire community. Because alot of Cameron residents are scared to death, myself included. If they don't get to the bottom of this before school starts back up, I don't even want to send my kids to school. Right now I just want to keep them locked up in a bubble, and that is sad to have to feel that way. But when you can no longer feel like your able to protect your children from the air, water, etc..., what do you do?

Anyway my prayers and thoughts are with the Kemper family and all others whose lives have been turned upside down by this horrible turn of events.

Its time we the community come together and do what we can to help move this along. If we all do a little research and share our finding on here then maby we can figure this out. And as for the school thing iam am scared to send my child to the summer school program she already attends at this point but iam thinking about pulling her out,any suggestions? Once more Iam asking all of you to PLEASE put signs or flowers, balloons what ever you have and place them out in the grass by the road before Friday morning, I was thinking maby put them all down Walnut st so the family can see them as they go by.

www.atsdr.cdc.gov/tfacts137.html I did some research and found this web site, you might want to visit it. Have any of us thought about pesticide? ethylene oxide is used in pesticide and soaks in to soil where we grow our produce and in water! So maby it is the fresh produce or food from our gardens or even water. But go to this web site and tell what you think!

I have read all your comments and we are all scared. It would be worth pulling together (you are all in this together) not for a bitch session but to brainstorm ANY ideas, document people/ages/birthplace who have had cancer in the town. Someone take the bull by the horn and call a meeting. Take notes on EVERYTHING, send a copy to everyone, and everyone study it. Exchange emails. You'd be amazed what great ideas people have. Someone will find the answer and it might not be by testing the water. There were so many great comments on your chat...keep it going.

It's natural to point the finger because it makes us feel as if we're getting closer to the answer. Focus your energy on the important things. No, I don't trust the city, or any govt for that matter, but that's not going to get you anywhere. Help yourselves. This could be more than just your problem too...maybe it's more widespread. But for now, do something about it.

If you are worried about the school I would find out who these 12 people are with a brain tumor. See how many of them attended school there or spent time at the school. Someone mentioned 3 of the victims having spent time up there but that isn't really a lot- most people have kids etc so of course there will be some. I think the teacher passing away brought the school in to focus.
The problem could be anything at this point but I would stay away from anything that could be the culprit.

I have been thinking a lot. I don't think that it is crops or livestock from Cameron, for the reason that it is shipped to other towns, not just Cameron. The other towns that get food from us would have brain tumors too. The people that have them are all so differant, it is hard to see what they might possibly have in common. Maybe since there is a bunch of construction going on someone released a gas from the ground.... Just throwing that out there. I agree with the close outsider. We all need work together. But we could do it on here so people can add what they want, and see what we think. We need involvement. A list of people with the tumors and their ages, occupations, ect (like said above) would be a good start.....

That's exactly what you need to do- good to throw those ideas out. Think of anything and everything.
Here's a video of Rep. Jim Guest being interviewed where he talked about other NW Missouri towns being affected such as Independence etc...how many victims do they have??? That's a large area so having 12 brain tumor victims would not be as significant but it's worth listening to if you haven't seen it.

Is there a significant amount of livestock/crops being shipped to places like Independence or Hamilton? Something worth finding out.
Rep. Jim Guest mentioned in his video something about a Rockwall plant or something? Where is that? He isn't talking about Rockwall Texas is he- the railroad or something? They are investigating it as a possibility for some reason.

someone needs to spread the word to get the town on this chat...put up signs- tell the coffee shop, church, school etc. We are praying for all of you and your town and hope there is a solution to this horrible problem very soon.

I'm going to suggest that the people of Cameron contact Erin Brockovich.
She has a wealth of experience in getting answers about just this kind of thing.
There was a movie made about her and her ability to break through the BS and find real answers to the cause of cancers in communities.

This would be a good direction for the television stations to take in gaining coverage and answers.

I grew up on a farm east of Cameron. I now live in Iowa. My mother was the charge nurse of the Cameron hospital on the night shift for approximately twenty years (ending around 1994). I often heard her express the view that inordinate numbers were diagnosed with cancer/leukemia during those years, people who did not smoke or drink. She told our family she thought the common use of chemicals by farmers for weed control on crops could cause this. She knew DDT was commonly used for years by folks for weed/pest control in gardening. We learned its consequences. Agriculture use of chemicals is common, not just in Cameron.

I SPENT 35 OF MY 40 YEARS IN AND AROUND CAMERON. I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CARCINOID CANCER THIS JANUARY 2008. I DON'T KNOW IF THERES A CONECTION TO CAMERON. THE CANCER I GOT IS RARE SO IF ANYONE ELSE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH THIS I WOULD FIND IT INTERESTING.

My grandfather died just a little over four years ago. He had not just brain tumors but tumors all over the inside of his body. The doctors couldn't tell us what had caused all of these tumors. My grandfather spent 75% of his life in Cameron, Missouri. He was a bus driver for the schools and he drank a lot of water. My grandmother who also lived there never drank water, and while it's probably not healthy it probably saved her life.

If water is the source of a tumor-causing agent, then the tumor more likely would be in various part of the body. But if the increase in tumors are in the brain, then the tumor-causing agent could be something that affects the brain. What about RADIATION from CELL PHONES and WIRELESS PHONES? It would be interesting to check out what side of the brain the tumors are and compare them with the dominant ear side these kinds of phones are used by the patients.
i think they need to do soil testing of all land/and water testing. I truely believe there must of been a dumping site there of unhealthy and dangerous waste from a company

the water is not the problem it has been tested by jim guest own personal lab and it came back clean, it was tested by the other peoples lab, came back clean, tested by the dnr/epa came back clean, get off the water and look for another answer. If it were the water more than a handful of people would have tumors everyone would.
everyone uses the water in town here if not for drinking for cooking, bathing, first aid treatment.washing your hands. see where i am going with this.

Someone had posted on the paper forum that all the tumors where in eagles landing, maybe everyone needs to test their homes, maybe the contractor used something in your home,

someone said a hog farmer had tumors, well what kind of chemicals is he using? is he using them correctly? where is all the waste the hogs make, where is he storing it or how is he disposing of it?

A little girl has two, does she have other illness that might contribute to a tumor? where all has she been in her life?

Do the other people who have tumors just stay in cameron or do they go out of town for whatever reason?
Has anyone ever thought of the plastics? This I have read up on and it is scary

what about the wireless internet and the cell phones, I recall at one time someone talking about the waves well lets look at what side of the brain people have these tumors on and what side of the face that they use when they talk on the cell phones?

Erin B came to town, she said it might take years, and everyone is fine with that? why is it ok if it takes YEARS, but not ok when the state said it will take a while?

Question for Mr Guess, why is it you are a represnt the state but yet you talk bad about them?

People need to get together on this and look at everything around them, and not blame people until you have something to blame them for.

I have a tumor, mine is cancerous , the dr I went to stated there is no scientific proof of why tumors occur, especially in a healthy person.
NO one in my family has ever had cancer, I am the first. I still say it is just a fluke, But God will be looking out for you. He is after all the only one you can trust and turn to. for answers

Hi, My husband and I lived in Cameron about 10 years ago and he was diagnosed with cancer last year. It is Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. He had a crainiotomy to remove the tumor and his maxillary and ethmoid sinuses removed and luckily it was not in the brain yet and it pulled away from the optic nerves so he was able to keep his eye. I am curious on what types of cancer are being reported. We only lived there a short time but he is from the KC area originally.

-- in 1972 there used to be a site that dumped what they call toxic waste in your area is was told to the residents its not a worry. blah blah blah now they are finding out all the hidden treasure that is yes under your schools homes and water sources is now leaking not only this has a long term effect that takes years to see,( cancer not just brain tumors but also various alt kinds.) they are aware but do not care because the company will not expose themselves. I pray for you all and urge you that a good option is to move and now.
