You're absolutely right & young workers have short attention spans, no 'stick-to-it" capability. They're there one minute & gone the next, running around somewhere, they have no self-discipline, & they will only do what they want to do & nothing else.
If you want a "good" Worker, you won't get one with a young Person. Oh, & I left something out...there's a really good chance that whe they get their Paycheck, you won't see them back at work until they've spent all that Paycheck & getting them to come to work on time is almost impossible!
Almost all of them have to have an older worker pick up their slack.
Its funny, because at 16 I was picking up the slack of the older workers at my job because I wanted to work. I was also early most days had had to wait to check in. The days I was late (as most it was only 10 minutes) was because I had to talk to a teacher at school, and I always sent my boss a quick text telling her what was going on, but I always got my job done on time. So do not generalize today's young adults. I had hard working parents who taught me how to work. And if today's young adults don't have a good work ethic, you should take a look at the people who raised them.

So what can we as parents do to change our kids mentality? My kids are still in school, so I haven't lost hope.
Make them to house work before anything else. Don't cut them any slack. Show them YOU work hard and are dedicated to your job.

Well, if what you say is true, you're the exception. Plus, you haven't been in the workforce long, if you "text" your Boss. If the current trend continues, wait until you are a seasoned & Older worker & tell us what you think, then.
BTW, I'm Retired & worked since I was in my 20's & I was never late for work, for ANY reason, not even once!
I do praise you for getting your all work done, but remember it's not just how quickly you do it, it's also HOW WELL you do it! If you are fast, but the quality is bad, then it's not worth a thing to anybody & costs the Company or your Employer money, because SOMEBODY has to redo it!

I went through a period of time back during the
early 80s when I was working 3 jobs and to think
today kids can't even handle one lol. Give me a break
lol. They won't get any sympathy from me.

I can relate, because I did the same thing. It dang near killed me, too! My Kids never got to see me nor I, them & I could see their unhappiness on their faces when I did see them. Right then is when I decided that there are more important things in this World than money!

I've worked since I was 16. I'm now 22. At my current job for 3 1/2 years. I'm also a full time nursing student. If I'm not busy, I go find something to do. Oh and I did volunteer work even I wasn't old enough to work. I put in over 350 hours during my summer time. So, call young people lazy if you wish. Not all of us are. However, you get punished for not being lazy. Maybe that's why people are lazy in this state.
