I would like to send my condolences to the family of Father Chuck. This is a very sad time for all of his friends and family. May he rest in peace with the Father for all eternity.

Mr.Mentrup was a nice guy. I knew him prior to becoming a priest.I have known him since my freshman year at St.X back in 1982. I am deeply sadden and send my condolences to his Mom, sisters'and extended family. I can remember his zest for life.I can remember the rides downtown. He would drop me off so that I could catch the bus to my Over the Rhine apartment. Unfortunately, its been 10 years since I've chatted with him. He performed the sermon at our 10 yr anniversay at St.X.The irony is I flew back to Cincy from Calif, for our 20th, the weekend before his untimely death and I thought about him, wondering if he was going to do the sermon again.

May he rest in peace!

Most priests I've ever met were pretty lame, self-righteous, or had something amiss in their personality. Not Fr. Chuck. He was a genuinely good person. A normal person. A guy you could actually talk to and not feel like you were being judged. He visited me when I was wrongfully jailed for fighting a cop who tried to rape my girlfriend. He said he would personally talk to the judge and sort it all out. That gave me hope. I needed hope at that time in my life. It's been a long time since he died but I need to express my appreciation for this man. If he's in heaven, I want to go there. If he's in purgatory, I want to go there. I don't believe in hell, but if he's there, well it can't be all bad. Rest in peace, Fr. Chuck. You're still missed.
