It's my understanding it's currently used as an apartment building. As bad as I would hate to see these people loose their homes, I would love to own and live in the Sorg Mansion as well as my entire family. Of course it would have to be completely rentivated to accommodate whole families as oppose to one room apartments, but Oh wouldn't it be grand to live at the Sorg Mansion!

I've also heard stories of undergroud tunnels so the staff could freely move between the mansion and the servant quarters, I also heard the Sorg family used the tunnels to freely move between the mansion and the opra house. Of course, I also heard those frightening stories of hidden doors and hidden walkways inside the mansion itself...and the spirits that still drell in the mansion

Has anyone ever tried to get a historical grant to renovate the building. It portrays the "industrial history" of our country as do the biltmore houses.

During 1943 & until January, 1944, I attended the Middletown Business College which occupied the main floor of the Sorg Mansion. It was certainly a beautiful place. I remember they would frequently rent the main entry including the winding staircase for weddings.

After leaving the college I entered the Navy and then lived in California after World War II. I now live in Cornelius, OR

Last summer I passed by the Sorg Mansion, and it looked pretty bad, was being rented out as apartments, clothes hanging out and box fans in the windows did not help the appearance

Under President Bush historic funding was cut to the bone...sad but true. The only way to get funding is with a business plan to give it new use
and even then it may prove much too costly.
Not to worry though, it will be standing when we are are dead and gone...they don't build them like that anymore!!!

I toured the Sorg Mansion yesterday, and am interested in restoring it, and running it as a bed and breakfast, but am having a hard time justifying the costs to renovate the buildings, and also having a hard time finding out why someone would wish to visit Middletown. I was surprised by how many vacant buildings there are in downtown Middletown. The house itself has alot of potential, and the interior is very nice!! The bathrooms on the other hand......well, they leave ALOT to be desired. The carriage house need alot of work, new roof, all new interior, basically new everything, I mean everything!!! The same story for the servants house in the back, but not as extensive, but water damage can be seen, and the basements all have moisture issues. It has been a boarding house for a long time, I think since the 1930's.

About the tunnels...I will leave that to your imagination.....maybe maybe not....lol

They should tear down the entire town! I remember back in the 50's 60's era when this was a beautiful vibrant City. Pollution? Yes. However, we did not know it at the time. Seemed normal. Today, this place is a sad, sad commentary of what becomes of a City when labor unions, with their outragious demands, destroy a City.

Lubbers Dance School was located in the Sorg in the 60s. It is a treasure that should be protected from vandals no matter the cost. This is a building that can't be replaced.
