What they want to do is to close one or two of the 4 elementary schools.

Whatever school that they choose to close is going to create some hurt feelings.

They may end up closing the Camden Elementary school.

I don't know if the people of the district get to vote on this or if those in charge get to choose.

Do they need all 4? My family is from Camden so I try to keep up on things there. I just wonder...Rome's population continues to decline rapidly. I think maybe Camden's may also be going down. So I just wonder if they really need all 4? Any time the government, federal, state, or local, reduces its size many people get freaked out. I'm not sure why other than it being an insecurity issue.

The population is definitely declining throughout the state.

I don't see why they need four elementary schools.
Which ones do you think will be closed?

I do know. I'm sorry to say it, but only an idiot would even consider thinking that Camden el would get shut down. It's the largest elementary school in the district. It makes zero sense to shut it down.

No one wants to see a school building empty; however, that being said...yes, our student population is declining. With the cost of fuel, upkeep, etc. and the economy in the disasterous state it is in there aren't too many choices. I have empathy for those whose children attend No. Bay; however, the cost of computer equipment, upkeep, upgrading, fuel to heat the building, etc. I'm sure no one wants to see their school taxes increase and would most likely vote the budget down if they did increase. The Board of Ed. seems to have studied the possibilities. It's never easy to see a school building abandoned; however, we have to look at the "big" picture as to what can our voters in the district afford and do the very best we can. Camden is definitely not the only district of the 770+ in NYS that is facing these difficult decisions. We need to think of what's best for the children, what's best for the district, and what we can afford to support.
