I just moved here from california and my wife is half-black and half-mexican. Every time we go out in public we get stared at. I thought that this was a different generation where it does not matter what the color of your skin, but I take it the south still has not got the memo. Is this town really that behind or was it just a bad day for us!

Don't worry about all the rednecks in the south.

I would sincerely hope that it's because you guys are new in town b/c we have plenty of interracial couples, but just like in every other town...there are still those that will never let loose of their "old ways". I say Welcome...glad you guys are here, hope you stay a while!

We got the gay memo but the black/white thing is still struggling.
Glad you're here - you can make this a better place just by being here!

I actually think I saw y'all in Bentleys once. Have you ate there? I say that because you said she's half black and half Mexican. If you're the couple I saw, I remember I stared, and it was because she was one of the most beautiful women I ever saw. I remember thinking, wow I wish I had her figure, and her smile. So......you're probably right, alot of people are just stupid, but some of the stares might be because you're new, or because your wife is so darn beautiful!!!!!:-). Welcome.

Everyone has their own opinion and they are entitled to it. I for one was raised "country"... not so much redneck. There is a difference! Rednecks give educated white people that prefer quiet country living over the city a bad name. I'm not against interracial relationships, your business is your own. However you won't find me dating outside of my race because thats how I was raised and I respect my parents and grandparents and great-grandparents. I do think that (for lack of better words) "mixed" children are very beautiful children. But kids are cruel. While some are raised open minded others aren't, just like here in the south. When couples of different races decide to start a family or take the risk of having an unplanned pregnancy, do they consider how the children will feel? If they will be ridiculed or outcasts? I personally know a biracial person. She hates who she is. She hates her skin tone, her hair, and that most white guys won't date her but she doesn't like black guys. Welcome to the south...

Randomess is so correct, well said! Makes it very hard on the kids, not accepted by black community or white! I was also raised the same and raise my kids the same!

My husband and I just don't pay it any attention!!! It is just something you get used to in the South, but it is a lot better now than it used to be!!! The stares at us mostly come from SOME older white men or black women!!!Welcome to Camden!!!

Well I am biracial and my husband is white. We have not had too much attention but that could just be because everyone in this town knows me or knows my family. I think that as long as your happy then who cares what others think. I had some bad experiences growing up here being different from the "norm" but I also think it has made me a stronger person who can deal with adversity. I hope yall have a more welcoming atmosphere the more ppl you meet.

naw, there's plenty of bi-racial couples around town, but you do live in a small southern town and there will always be that underlying bigotry with some..it's to bad but it is what it is...dont' pay it any attention there are plenty of people who don't care....

Well I do not feel so much affected by it as much as my wife does. Since california does not even look twice at us. My job brought me here so its not like she picked out this place to start our family on her own lol.I guess we will just look over it from now on, I just wanted to get a feel of how ppl react to these situations around here. thanks by the way I do think my wife is gorgeous!

El Dorado is terrible. A bi-racial couple there doesn't have a chance. El Dorado is also full of homophobes. Just warning ya.
Yes, the people are probably staring at your beautiful wife. We are glad you moved here!
