Malden —

Democratic Rep. Edward Markey kicked off his campaign for U.S. Senate on Saturday with a tour of Massachusetts, telling supporters that he is the best person to succeed John Kerry and help move President Barack Obama's agenda forward, Wicked Local newspartner WCVB is reporting.

Though he didn't name his only announced challenger, fellow Democratic Rep. Stephen Lynch, Markey highlighted his support of women's reproductive rights and the federal health care overhaul, two issues on which Lynch has a mixed voting record.

"I'm standing up for a woman's right to choose," he said to applause at the YMCA in his hometown of Malden.

Kerry left the Senate to become secretary of state. He was sworn in Friday. Gov. Deval Patrick named William "Mo" Cowan, a former top aide, to fill Kerry's seat until a special election to replace him scheduled for June 25. Markey and Lynch will face off in a primary April 30.

Massachusetts Republicans are scrambling to find a candidate after former U.S. Sen. Brown opted out of the race Friday. Asked about Brown's decision, Markey said it was probably a difficult but correct move for his family. He said he welcomes any Republican to the race who is interested in a real discussion and encouraged any candidate to pledge to limit out-of-state influences.

Markey said he will fight cuts to Medicare and Medicaid and will work to protect Social Security. He said he also wants to fight to keep research money for Massachusetts and boasted of his climate change and gun control efforts.

"I want these weapons off our streets," he said.

From Malden, Markey planned stops in Worcester and Springfield.

Kerry is among those supporting Markey, who also starts the race with a substantial financial advantage,$3.1 million in his campaign account compared with Lynch's $740,000 in the most recent campaign finance reports.

Markey also has the backing of Victoria Kennedy, widow of the late Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy, and of U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

“What unites us here in Malden and across Massachusetts is the unshakeable belief that no matter where you come from, no matter your circumstances, you can achieve the American Dream,” said Markey.“I am running for U.S. Senate to put the American Dream within reach for all residents of Massachusetts.”

I am the Democratic / Republican fiscally conservative not a tea-party right winger,
I ’am your Worst Nightmare. I am a White, bleeding heart Conservative, Tax-Paying, American Veteran, Gun Owning. That's me ! I am a Master at what I do. I work hard and long hours with my hands to earn a living. Too many people believe in what I do for just cause and I do have followers.

I believe in God and the freedom of religion, but I don't push it on others.
I ride Harley Davidson Motorcycles, and drive American-made cars, and I believe in American products and buy them whenever I can.

I believe the money I make belongs to me and not some liberal governmental functionary, Democratic or Republican, that wants to share it with others who don't work !

I'm in touch with my feelings and I like it that way !

What is it with candidates suddenly having this new found interest in us womens reproductive rights? Roe v Wade has been around already for 40 years The birth rates are down for the past for years because women are choosing not to get pregnant and its because they can't afford kids I guess Markey thinks it worked as a ploy during Warrens campaign so he'll play the same card People should get a clue There's too many politicians going to Washington to look out for Washington and not for the people who voted them in

Public Citizen, if you don't push anything on anyone, why are you making threatening statements about being someone's worse nightmare, master at what you do and go out of your way to mention you own a gun I have read your countless rants that you post here on topix.You must be at work while you are posting I think we get that you are a cyber troll You probably go out of your way to find out who each poster is even if it means breaking the law to find out and then go down the street where someone lives to stalk Oh, and by the way. I am an American, too I worked at one time too but I don't resort to control freak tactics And just for the record, your candidate Markey believes the tax payer, meaning you, should have to pay for women to get an abortion because they didn't engage in protected sex I believe that if you lose your job, the government should help you out especially since your money went to other people while you worked

The guidelines of your total income per person for voting for a Politician here in the United States. This is based on your tax bracket, 28%, 32%, 34% and 36% of your State and Federal Taxes. The more you donate, the less taxes you pay.

Which bracket are you in ?

Democrat - You usually make less than $ 250,000.00 a year

Republican or Conservatives or Flip / Floppers ---- You usually make more than $ 250,000.00 a year

Independent-$150,000.00

The Tea-Party needs to move to Florida, they can do all that talking down there.

Massachusetts is being miss-informed that there is mostly Millionaires here in Massachusetts, this isn’t so, there cannot be all these millionaires. This doesn’t make any sense at all. All the welfare people and illegal aliens will now be getting a pay raise in their monthly pay checks and free healthcare thanks to the January 19, 2010 votes here in Massachusetts. Vote Democratic.

Air Force One

An airplane was about to crash; there were 5 passengers on board, but only 4 parachutes.

The first passenger said, "I am President Obama, the chosen one. The world Leader and everyone needs me, I can't afford to die." So he took the first parachute and left the plane.

The second passenger, Sarah Palin, said, "I am the next Presidential Nominee. And I am the smartest woman in American history, so America's people don't want me to die. My daughter Bristol is dancing with the stars. I know about everything about Alaska, I could even see Russia from my house. She took the second parachute and jumped.

The third passenger, John Kerry, said, "I'm a Senator, and a decorated war hero from the U.S. Navy of the United States of America. I am keeping the middle class intact along with my fellow Representatives and Senators .." So he grabbed the parachute next to him and jumped.

The fourth passenger, EX-President George Bush, said to the fifth
passenger, a 10-year-old schoolgirl, "I have lived a full life, and served my country. I will sacrifice my life and let you have the last parachute."

The little girl said, "That's okay, Mr. President. The parachute left for you. America's smartest woman took my schoolbag."

Keep the United States alive. Vote Democrat in 2013

In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh ,
had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:

"A Republican form of government is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A Republican will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury, and this is happening today ( 2012 ) their all millionaires. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every Republican will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy,(which is) always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has
been about 1000 years. During those 236 years, this nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage."
From Whig party or ( Democratic ) was then a widely recognized label of choice for people who identified as opposing tyranny. Mostly considered center
From Democrats The party's socially liberal and progressive platform is largely considered center and the best choice of government.
From Republican The party's platform generally reflects American conservatism in the U.S. political spectrum and is considered right wing.

I hear what goes on in the North End and in Everett all the time. The gangs that are in Malden are now of the coming of the MS-13 gang, when is Malden going to do something. Dont you know some of these guys in city hall, you said so before.

I don't know anyone personally in City Hall However I know about them through experience Some of the posts by other people are true, not just idle gossip from the pizza shop However, I share your concerns about gang violence but not Ed Markey for US Senate Its my opinion he is not the best choice and I should have freedom of choice here in America to vote for whom I believe is the best candidate He's been our Congressman for decades, lives around here and we have all these issues in the City.

Public Citizen, what does someone's choice of candidate have to do with telling anyone you will be their worse nightmare and you go out of your way to mention you have a gun? Its a bullying and intimidation tactic especially if you put yourself in Maplewood SQ and mention gangs This is a post about your candidate Ed Markey If he did that much for Malden then the way ytou communicated threats and bullying in your post would not be tolerated If you plan on being someones worse nightmare then you plan on stalking that person. I get that you have City connections. When crime is allowed to operate on a lower level its because corruption is operating on a higher level

Independent- in the middle

Get out the Vote on November 6, 2012.

Lets show the taxpayers that we can vote for a democrat, republican or independent. It would be illegal to have outside people coming To vote other than the taxpayer. We still have to remain honest. No Tea-Party votes, they Hi-Jacked the votes from other states.

If you vote republican, then you should pay for the republican status (36%). This should be the new law, this is a Requirements of being a Republican.
