Hanging chairs raise ghosts of racism
The debate on whether lawn chairs with the President's name on them and hanging from trees are innocent references to Clint Eastwood's famous ''empty chair'' rant at the Republican National Convention - or symbolic lynchings of America's first black president - now spans the country.

I am ashamed to live in Clark County today. The lynched chair is clearly a racist statement. If George and Kathyrn were unaware of the insult this would be to a Black American, then they would surely have apologised once we brought it to their attention. Then again, maybe not, as there are still undercurrents of racism to be found in Clark County, and it is time that all of us who find such behavior abhorrent, to step up and speak up before yet another generation of racists can be born.
I ask the Maxwells, on behalf of every Black person in our county, and tens of thousands of white ones also, to remove this chair from their tree.
