Church denominations unite for baptisms at TN city pool

"Hampton said Wednesday’s baptism is part of an ongoing effort within the county — the coming together of its churches.

“I wouldn’t really call it an ecumenical movement, but it’s more a family of God movement,” Hampton said.“I’m Baptist to the bone, but really, we’re all a member of one church.”

Before the event, several pastors said they weren’t worried about doctrinal differences between the denominations.

“For these community events ... we’re not going to knock each other,” Burke said of the Church of God."

Baptists and Church of God and maybe others have a baptism service all together, proves there is no real division in Christ.

They are all members of one church. The Lord's church.

The only division is from those who want there to be division.

Church of Christ should be like this.

Did they all greet each other with a holy kiss before they got in the pool?

Gotta keep that NT doctrine consistent if you are going to be ecumenical.

Was somebody there keeping records which baptism was for the remission of sins and which were just an outward sign.?

That could be confusing to God.

Water is used to clean one self. Because of this, it is a symbol of cleaning yourself of the earth worldly greed and sin. This practice goes back to the time when the hebrews lived in Egypt. Jesus practice this.

I see from Johnny's new long promo on his TV station that it's all about himself and not about God. It's a long commercial where he brags about himself, brags about Micah and Caleb, some widow brags about Johnny and how wonderful he is and how wonderful his sons are, nothing about God.

Johnny, James and Mark aren't division in the church. They aren't part of the real church to start with.

Look at the churches in the article at the top. That is Christianity without division. Church of Christ should learn from them.

Then what are we to do with II John 9-11?

I don't think 'unity' for the sake of 'unity' to prove truth is the issue - it's about who is abiding in His words of life.

If the bible says one is cleansed after baptism, why would one think they are still dirty? Mis trust I guess.

It's all about Johnny and his works, nothing about Christ.

Johnny is now crowing about how the media is paying attention to him. Its only Charles Roark who is paying attention to Johnny. And that's because Johnny is paying Charles to give him attention. Name one other TV station or newspaper paying attention to Johnny Robertson. There aren't any. I bet the TV stations and newspapers in Roanoke and Greensboro have never heard of him.

There is no real division among real Christians. That is why different churches, part of the one church of all believers, can baptize together like in the news article. Even Catholics accept that as baptism. Only fringe cults like Martinsville Church of Christ don't accept it. They aren't of the one faith, one Lord, one baptism that real Christians have. They have a different baptism.

Yeah, Church of Christ practices immersion per the promise of God - to others it's merely an outward sign - not a new birth into the covenant and family of God? Jesus said to do it, and both Peter and Paul say it is a commandment.

They were baptizing together.

Are you saying that's not worshiping God together? What else do you want to make you happy?

You know baptism is not worship it is an obedience to a command. Worship as described in the bible is praising, coming together on the Lords day edification, prayer, honoring God, participating together in the Lords supper. You might want to see what worshiping was to the early Christians. Baptism was to place one in Christ. Worship follows that.

So why dont they worship together?

They come together on the Lord's day, they pray, they honor God, they participate in the Lord's supper. They don't do it in the same sanctuary but they do it together in eyes of God. You are saying it's not worship unless all Christians do it in one place. That's not possible without a big building. I have been to events at auditoriums and civic centers where Christians from different congregations sing and pray and praise together. Baptists and Methodists and others. That is worship together. Not baptizing together but worship together. If the division-driven Church of Christ doesn't want to worship and honor God with them that's the CoC problem.

Let's see the CoC construct a big building in Martinsville and Danville so they can all worship together and all the other Christians can worship together. Oh that's right, the CoC that the Robertson family runs can't even fill an entire tent.

Just go get all those groups you mentioned and ask them to worship together and see what you get. Be honest because you know your blowing smoke.

Now you're just making excuses.

You aren't happy unless everyone agrees with you.

You aren't perfect. You don't have perfect understanding of anything. You don't have perfect understanding of God. You don't have perfect understanding of the Bible. If you don't agree with how others worship, they don't have to agree about how you worship either.
