Does anyone remember the Buckaroo burger joint in Smackover. And the Guadalajara in Langley building.I remember the news stand on the corner by the red lights. And that there was 2 red lights. I miss the things I grew up with in Smackover. I remember there were 3 grocery stores Willy bells, Sure-ways and Liberto's. Boy those were the days. Now Smackover is like all the other towns around there, just drying up to nothing.

The burger joint was Bobo's and I remember it well. Now only 1 grocery store but 2 liquor stores. It is dead down there; don't even care to go back anymore.

Far from dead but could be much better. City officials need to get a little more proactive. Taking care of what's there would be a good place to start. Mow. Pick up trash. It's a sweet little town but needs to be spruced up a little.

Well I can tell you that I moved here a year ago and I love living here. My kids have attended alot of schools and Smackover is the best one ever. Towns are like everything else in life, it is what you make of it. I would never live anywhere else.

I went to Smackover school too and back then it was all about the cheerleaders and football players. If you weren't one of them you were a nobody. I left 20 years ago and never looked back. It was the best thing that happen to me. The only reason I go back now is to see family. When they are going I'll be gone.Yes it was bobo's I remember it too. There use to be a little burger joint behind The Flower smith many many years ago and my grandmother cooked hamburgers there. They were the best in town..

Went to the Oil Town festival and it was kind of like back when you went to the fair and all the folks from the river showed up.

Well I can tell you that my kids are allowed to be involved in any thing they want to be and none of them are cheerleaders or football players but could be if they chose to. If you haven't been around Smackover in 20 yrs. things might have become better. They also have a top of the line special ed department and there is no other school around here that can say they have one too. They are about the kids so if you haven't experienced it in a few years, maybe you need to.

Good schools in Smackover? Surely you jest. Dictator Don Smeltzer was there when I was in school and I hear he is STILL there and that has been 30+ years ago. NO one needs to be in school administration that long - he was ineffective then and still is. And the blacks.......phew we. Integration in 1964 and 45 years later, still a bunch of dumb asses come out of the school system.
Give me Harrison - home of free whites any day.

Well I can promise you my kids are not dumb. Maybe you went to school for the wrong reason. Everyone has to live in this world with all people. It is sad that a school that we see as wonderful produced people with your thoughts. All I have to say is thanks to Smackover and the school district for providing my kids a great place to get an education because that is what going to school is all about.
I agree with you

I hate to hear that your kids chose to be losers, i.e. Emos or Goths, in their High School. You must feel awful! F.Y.I., it would be hard though for people that are already out of high school to go back to Smackover to experience the teachers/kids relationship. They might be able to find out if they have kids to send there, but some kids might not like the Emo/Goth atmosphere, if that is what you are portraying the teachers encourage. But let's celebrate the few intelligent kids that still choose to participate in football and cheerleading and carry on the Buckaroo Pride tradition!

Yes, the only way they can know is to ask the people whos kids go there NOW. Change can happen anywhere. There was alot of seniors this year that got big scholarships to big colleges. If they were all dumb, that would have never happened.
