It's very rare to run into a mountain lion out here in Moreno Valley. There have been multiple sightings throughout the years. The most common animal that you will encounter in the city is probably Coyotes and Donkeys. I've never seen any foot prints or indications of mountain lions when I've gone hiking out here. I've encountered Donkeys and a Coyote (in the distance). Since the probability exist of mountain lions roaming the hills, I always carry my buck knife and a hatchet, just because those big cats can kill me with one good pounce, better go out fighting I supposed haha.
I hope this doesn't scare you from going into the local wilderness, do some research on how they sound when prowling, in the quietness you will most definitely be able to hear them when they are close by.

I practically used to live at lake perris for many years when I trained and raced in triathlons & I saw 2 live mountain lions the first one was running across the upper road back towards the hills near the main campground & then months later across the lake near Bernasconi beach one ran across the bike path about 100 feet in front of me. Both sightings happened while I was riding my bike fortunately so I was able to get away fast not that I really felt like I was being chased or stalked. I've seen many deer there over the years so they are their main food source I'd imagine. Also I saw a dead lion off the ramona expressway like where rider street in perris goes across the ramona expressway & ends at the hill. I reported my first sighting that took place near the main campground & the ranger didn't seen very interested, so I didn't bother to report my other sighting. I've also talked to others that have said that they have seen them around there before too.
