It means that there are serious problems being found nationally with voting machines that Pennsylvania officials both Democrat AND Republican are just ignoring.

It means that the Pennsylvania Department of State is not taking these warnings from other states seriously. They just pass machines through and tell everyone that all is well until a catastrophe happens. Just ask the people over in Northampton what happens when the Department of State finally decertifies one of these bad voting machines (and DOS has decertified TWO machines in the past 4 years that they first "tested" and passed.) And sadly the machines Northampton got last year to replace the decertified ones are just as bad if not worse than what they had.

It means that every voter in Pennsylvania regardless of party should pay attention to this, join a citizen group like www.VotePA.us , and demand voter-verified paper ballots with audits of all elections.

And it means that this is no laughing matter, LOL. And it has nothing to do with Obama or McCain. This is our vote -- our democracy at stake.

Pay attention, people. Voter-verified paper ballots (now used in over 35 states) and audits of all elections are the way to go. There are good websites like VotePA.us, VotersUnite.org , and VerifiedVoting.org with more information.

Funny, I'm not hearing any incessant whining or moaning as after the 2000 election. What IS your point? You're trying to stir up an issue that simply does not exist. EOS!

There were massive problems with electronic machines in 2004 (specifically Ohio) on machines (Diebold, ES&S) that were manufactured by Republican supporting companies. Warren O'Dell, owner of Diebold, publicly stated that he was committed to helping Ohio deliver it's electoral votes to Bush in 2004.

Recently a high level Republican IT guru, Mike Connell, died in a plane crash on his way to testify on charges that the Ohio vote was rigged. The Ohio vote in 2004 was tabulated on servers used by the RNC and the Bush administration.

It's important to note that the machines aren't suitable for use in elections (as the GAO also reported). The PA Secretary of State violated Pennsylvania election laws in numerous ways to deprive the voters of real ballots. The law requires that the voters get to preview the specific machines and then vote on whether or not they should be used at all. This was not done. Then, when the electors petitioned, per the law, to have the machines re-examined, the PA SecState illegally refused to conduct the re-examinations. It's not an innocent mistake: it's a deliberate subversion of elections. The machines are unreliable, overpriced, exhorbitantly expensive to maintain, slow the lines on election day, switch votes, lose votes, fake votes, and make a mockery of the whole process. Every voter in Pennsylvania should insist on a real ballot in the future.

Lehigh County has not used scanning machines for absentees - until this month's Primary. And, by definition, there will be a paper record of each vote cast.
