So I am from the area and have been following this story. Different websites have had a HUGE variety of opionions and comments posted on this guy. I have read everything from he was a fantastic guy, ex-marine, to a girlfriend murderer. I am not one for trashing the name of someone who obviously can't defend themselves, but I'm super curious. Can anyone that knows the guy/situation better than I do throw me something?

Yikes- I went to school at Cal and lived there around the time Denis appears to have gone missing. The news doesn't seem to be saying too much yet, but I also read through comment blogs and such that he may have played a role in a girlfriends death. Do the police have leads? Could a family member of the dead girlfriend have sought revenge?- or maybe his death was totally unrelated and was just hanging out with a separate bad crowd? An autopsy would be able to see if he'd been shot before his truck went in the river... this story seems far from over.

Hello. First off I want to say sorry about your loss, but I am glad that you got some closure. So obviously there are people talking about this ex girlfriend of his and everyone has mixed emotions on whether he was responsible or if it were self defense. Do you think there was foul play related to this in Dennis' end? Do the cops have any suspects? Do you have your own list of suspects??

Yvonne, first and foremost, my sympathy for your loss.

I am though interested in knowing if the police have looked into the 'friends' he was going to visit when he went missing. Were they students at Cal at the time? Was the medical examiner able to uncover any evidence of foul play? Back in '01 or '02 maybe, a man was found in his vehicle on 1st street in Cal (the road closest to the river), a gunshot victim- never did hear if they caught that man's shooter or what the story was...

Nothing has been released as far as the coroner or the police. I do not believe for one second that my husband drove himself into a river. He was so excited, we had just found out a week or so before he went missing that we were having a boy. he wanted a son more than anything! As far as his ex girlfriend, I am and have repeatedly told the family that I'm sincerely sorry for their loss but Denis was not to blame for her death. She was no angel either! Denis had changed the locks, she was not living there, she broke in after seeing him at the bar with another woman. she came after him with a knife, after cutting phone lines, ect in the house. He had to drive to the gas station to call 911 for help. I understand that her family is upset, but she had no buisness being there in the 1st place, and if someone came in your home and attacked you, would you stand there and let them? He had 2 nice sized boxers at the time that also defended him, which i believe is why she fell. Denis never hit me, he's not an abusive man. The black eyes incident was in the back of a car where once again he was defending himself, luckily he had witnesses for that and they issued a pfa against her as well. There are parts of the story we will never know, because neither of them are here to tell us. I have never bad mouthed that family until now..to say my husband got what he deserved is uncalled for! it wasnt fate that led to denis' finding on her 1yr anniversary of death, they chose to pull the plug on her on that date, which happened to b the date of my husbands dissapearance. i find that ODD! She was also doing better until her mother dropped her, but they leave that out also. Everything has been made to make my husband out to be a horrible person. And Denis was the total opposite. I would have never married him otherwise! As far as California, that is still a mystery to me. I cannot for the life of me figure out why he would have been there. And yes, the police are doing their job and I am confident that they will find who thought they had the right to take my husband from me and leave my son never knowing his dad!!!!!

i do apologize for taking so long to get back to you, but in all honestly there are so many sites that I couldnt remember where I was.lol. i set up to be notified when comments are left so I will answer a lil more quickly next time. I just hope that people read my comments and quit slandering my husbands name all over the internet when they are only hearing comments from my husbands worst enemy. Please remember that when reading articles there are 2 sides to every story and that the media is looking for controversy, and this time they found it. They also reignited a war between 2 family's that I thought had ended but apparently it never will. Neither Denis nor Noelle are with us anymore, and by saying the things they have said doesnt hurt them, it hurts their families. my sons do not need to see comments about their dad like that. Its just not right! Denis was a wonderful father, he treated my oldest as if he was his own, and my youngest will never have the chance to know him. the last thing i need is him going on the internet later in life and asking me why people are calling his dad a murderer.Especially when he was cleared of any and all charges!!! I am willing to talk to anyone who wants to know the truth and not pass judgement on someone they never knew, without hearing Denis' side of the story. Which apparently has become my job to stand up for him since he isnt here to speak for himself. Denis was a wonderful man who I loved with all my heart. I will never recover from this tragedy and he will never be forgotten!

Denis is lucky to have you to stand up for his name when he can't now. I don't know Denis from Adam but I agree with you 100% that it is unlikely he drove himself into the river. So to your knowledge Denis did not have any friends/aquaintances in Cal? It's such a small town-- I don't think it's a town that people would normally just pass through en route to somewhere else. It creeps me out to think that at the time Denis went missing, I knew most of the people (at least their faces) living in the town. Most of the people who live there are students and are gone in a few years, the rest of the residents are mostly old people but apparently the town does have a few shady characters and bad seeds living in it. I hope one day you find out who he went to visit and why he ended up there...

Hello Yvonne. Denis really was lucky to have someone like you to back him up to the end. I do feel very sorry that this is drudging up old fueds, and it is sad that your kids will be able to know both sides of opinions one day. You said that Noelle was doing fine until her mother dropped her-what's that about? I thought she was in her early 20s?? I can understand her father being bitter and angry and saying the things he said in that article...he is just hurting as much as Denis' mother is and this is probably just a flashback to everything that he went through losing his daughter. I can't say that my own father would feel any differently...you never want to beleive that your own child is wrong. Could Denis have had a drug problem that you didn't know about? Could this maybe be why he was in Cal with no one knowing why he was there? Do you in your heart feel that this was related to Noelle, or do you think that maybe it was more along the lines of a drug deal gone bad? Thank you so much for opening up to us.

I understand that Paul is angry and upset, I couldnt begin to imagine the pain of losing a child. And I pray my children out live me! I honestly do not believe he had anything to do with this but then again, everyone is a suspect at this point, ya know? My husband wasnt "perfect" Everyone has their faults, but cal wasnt an area I would look for him in. He didnt hang there to the best of my knowledge. He hung out with some rough people from time to time, and yes he dabbled in things he shouldn't. But in this day and age who hasnt? I personally don't believe, if he was hurt, that it was in cal. I think it ended there. But everything is speculation at this point. It's an open investigation therefore i know nothing more than the public. I just hope that they find the s.o.b. that did this and he or they are punished to the fullest. Thanks for ur sypmathy, and I was the lucky one, even though I only had Denis for a few years, they were the best years of my life!

after the "incident" Noelle was sent home and her mother was caring for her. Her mother accidentlty dropped her and she never recovered. Noelle was young and it truly is a shame that this all happened to her. Again I am sorry for their loss but please dont blame Denis. He defended himself like anyone would do.Granted I hear he was bigger than her, he could have taken the knife from her, and on and on it goes. We werent there, we dont really know what we would have done in the situation. There was a witness, who till this day defends Denis. I dont see my husband intentionally hurting anyone, especially a woman. Do drug deals really good bad these days? It has crossed my mind but when i did research, generally if you screw over a drug dealer, they want it known, so that people fear them, they dont hide the body or the truck in a river in hopes its never found. It just sounds like a personal grudge to me. I just dont know who or why. Guess that why I am not a detctive!

Well I hope for your childrens sake,Denis' mother sake, and for your sake that they do find the person responisble for whatever happened to him. And I hope that both your family and Noelle's family can someday make peace with everything that has happened. I couldn't imagine having to defend my husband years after he was gone, but you are doing a good job at it. Regardless of what anyone's opinion is, people should realize that now there are children that are going to suffer from all of the hatred being stirred.
