I lived on a farm with two gas storage wells. During the ten years there, I had the gas company out 4 times to fix gas gas leaks.

These had gas coming out of the ground. The worst had a dust cloud 20 feet in the air with a dozen dead birds.

I am surprised that these large diameter pipes can be close to homes.

Nothing racks my nerves like seeing a group of gas line workers chain smoking while on the job.

Oh. Now I see. After rereading "Herbie"'s post. GOOD to know, if so.
As an aside - another primo example of our language being eroded.
Another "they're, their and there" clueless citizen.
I think he meant it to read:'... they're safe ....'(never mind the 'save' for now;)
"THEIR gas pipes over THERE leak and THEY'RE being fixed."

The main thing to remember if you smell gas for over a week get the heck away from there until the gas company rememies the situation. I guess that is one more reason not to live in California, huh?

Yes, and has anyone seen the HBO documentary on people in Virginia that live by the gas line and have had gas in their well water for awhile. People are dieing of cancer and the water from their facets can actually catch on fire...and the gas company won't take the blame or make any corrections.

I believe the documentary that you are referring to is 'Gasland'. I would do a little research before believing everything that they state in the film, from what I understand, there are very few truely proven facts. The website below is pretty insightful.

That was more than a few years ago and if I recall, had to do with something INSIDE the house.

No! I don't recall but I think it was some kind of appliance, connection or service inside the house.

It was some time ago and was not a pretty sight!
