Rail is a great idea. It will attract many employers to the area, and we need jobs. It will attract people with jobs to the cities, especially young people, who LOVE cities with rail. This is not worth arguing about. We need leadership on this and we need it right now. Just DO it!

There is a serious need to have a rail system in the lehigh valley. I've heard about us having a rail too many years to count, but people are so afraid of change that they put road blocks up where there really should be no need. We have a huge population of commuters to NY and Philadelphia and the highways would be less congested if we had a rail system. I definitely for it!

The politicians lack the will, and the leadership skills needed to create a rail system.

Please ... we really need the fast train in Lehigh Valley. It is disturbing to find out our area has poorer train system than most of the smaller cities in Asia and Europe...

I really hope that the community will keep pushing for this, and only elect officials who will push for this in Lehigh Valley.

It is puzzling to me... why there are people debating about why we need train systems here in Lehigh Valley? I suspect that they probably have never visited other places in Europe or Asia for comparison of what modern train system is.

Once people tried the real train systems in Europe or Japan, I think there will be no debate that we really need such rail system in US as well.

...that's because the US invested in highways in the 1960's instead.

We wanted cars to drive from the 'burbs to the city.

I won't go into why I think we did that.

I could not agree with you more on that one... rail travel, let it be light, commuter, or long distance, can get you anywhere in Europe... take the long distance train from Berlin to Cologne Germany, at bullet speeds, hop off in Cologne and take the local transportation the rest of the way. Trams, Trolleys, Buses, Subways, Taxis, BIKES... you name it.

greatest ideas, why are they not coming from one of the "greatest countries"??

Now that Obama has announced that he wants high speed rail, these comments seem especially ridiculous. And, Paul Marin seems especially brilliant.

If people really wanted rail, we'd have it by now.

America invested in highways because, in part, it did a great job of separating people with cars from people without cars.

Sure, it helped sell cars, and trucks, and made transportation more efficient, but, really, look at when the roads were built, and by whom.
