This young lady doesn't feel sorry for herself. Her only need is to have someone show her they care about her and her well-being. She can do the rest for herself, knowing someone is on her side. I was down and out for many years with absolutely no one caring or showing me any kind of support or help. I believe that was harder than trying to make it on my own, feeling that no one cared if I even existed.

Even though I don't know her, I do care about her and want for her to make it in life, which I know she will do because of her positive attitude. Perhaps in some small way she will make a big difference in the system one day.

as human beings we have only gotten ahead in this world and furthered our species by helping each other out. it's what we've always done, and when we band together we do it really well.

actually i think i'll contact the MCall right now and see if they would be willing to drop off some school supplies she might need for her upcoming semester.

Only one hope after reading this...

That good things will happen to good people. Best of luck?

I understand her plight and many like her. There is no place to go to when summer comes. They end up using what pay they get to live in some room. If I were closer I would open my home to her for the summer. My mother and her brothers were part of foster care years ago. She was lucky her aunt adopted her. But her brothers stayed in the then orphans home til they were 16 and then told to go out the door and not return. There should be program for these children no fault of their own that stay in the foster system. The foster system needs to be fixed.

You should be very proud of yourself for all you've accomplished, and as above posters have mentioned, know that people DO care about you, some of them being people who've never even met you.

Ruby- Hopefully you will see this and contact us through the Morning Call or PorchLight. My wife and I raised 3 sons, all married and enjoying their families and careers. While we enjoy the "peace and quiet" there is an emptiness as well. While we are in our fifties with grandchildren, we would like to provide a home and the loving guidance that you need.

Stay strong. College can be rough, but having "good" friends can change everything. Get connected, find a mentor, and network with people that share your passions. You're doing good things for yourself. Just continue doing and never stop believing in yourself.

Your absolutely right about their summer, some foster youth "age out" and find themselves not knowing where to go afterward. For the very few young adults that go to college after aging out or even extending their stay in foster care seem to find an inconvenience or worry about where they'll go. There are some programs in Lehigh Valley that Valley Youth House is providing to help young adults transition into their adulthood and even help them with other obstacles such as housing or even something such as filing U.S. taxes. I would invest my support in things like that I personally have had experience with this.

Thank you for the offer I really appreciate it. Currently I am a sophomore and still continuing my studies, but have found a home that I can stay in also. Thank you again for your support I hope that everything with you and your family works well and beyond. :)
