Obama tells mayors to spend the money wisely ... or else

Even as President Obama told the nation's mayors Friday that they now have a friend in the White House , he warned that he would use the ''full power'' of the presidency to expose and crack down on them if they ... Full Story

Folks this is your tax dollars at work. Each of our communities has needs and could benefit from this stimulus. In many cases, just to maintain existing infrastructure. The Pawlowski and Callahan have there hands in the cookie jar for pet projects. If our smaller communities do not get a fair share, there will be a political price to pay. The towns that surround these communities have greater contribution to the function of our county governments. In this election year, Cunningham and Stoffa should be the ones championing equal distribution of these funds. Folks, it is your money, not theirs. No FUNDS, NO VOTE. That even goes for Obama, Casey, Spector, Dent, Mann, Brennen, Reichley, Brown, Samuleson, Harhart, Beyer, etc.

Seesh, I didnít think I could silence a board. My comments above were simply an acknowledgement that the only reporting on stimulus proposals were for Allentown and Bethlehem and a request from out elected officials to distribute the money fairly among the projects that have the greatest impact and are necessary. I would be inclined not to vote for my rep if my surrounding small communities do not benefit from the stimulus. Over the past few years, it seems as though there has been a disproportionate amount of state investment across the valley and our smaller communities are left out. Matching funds are usually required and in order for small towns to take advantage of Grants, taxes and/or bonds must be added. Bethlehem and Allentown have huge budgets that can easily accommodate matching funds. With all the grand proposals offered by Allentown and Bethlehem, I am concerned the rest of the valley may simply get stuck with the bill and have nothing to show for.

Yes, the Feds should intercede if the moneys are abused. Contractors should not be inflating rates because of the vast sums of money. We should be looking at how to maximize the taxpayer investment.

Best wishes to all officials to spend wisely and do the right thing.

The only problem I see is that you think stoffa and grinning cunningham care who gets the money. They only want to be reelected.

The reason why no one responded to your post is because no one reads this paper anymore! I guess the only thing good about a bad economy is that papers like this go out of business.

It's all smoke and mirrors. They guy who says that there is "not one pet project in this bill" when in fact it's loaded with them, now wants to be sure the Mayors spend it wisely. That's funny...SNL writers couldn't write stuff this good.

Translation:

I know jackshite about economics, so I'll shoot my stupid mouth off while referencing body parts. This is what I learned on the shortbus and in SPED class. When you're dumb as dogshite, just make fun of someone's appearance while picking your nose. All the other SPED kids laugh and love it!

What Obama gonna do if Rendell doesn't spend the money 'wisely'? Obama is so big and bad... every one shaking in their boots. Face it Obama is a leftist pansy with limited thought process and a loser who happened to get enough votes by feeding a bunch of bull shat to the masses.
