Never in my life have I seen such ridiculous phony political grandstanding like this issue on the part of Martin O'Malley, Governor. Let's just hope this deal includes a new nuclear power plant and jobs being built in Maryland and NOT New York state as threatened by Constellation. Otherwise, it's just another cheap political stunt.

Someone get the editor, quick:
"Under the 1999 deregulation pact, the state had agreed to let Constellation collect $5.2 billion from ratepayers toward the costs of closing the radioactive plants in 2036."
The plants are not radioactive. This poorly written sentence leaves the impression that the entire plant is one radioactive mess.
Would the editors please do a better job reviewing article submissions?

Constellation's clashes with state officials have taken on added significance as consumers have seen double-digit electric rate increases in the last few years. O'Malley, a Democrat, campaigned on promises to tackle soaring electric bills, but his efforts through the Public Service Commission have been stymied by the complexities of energy markets and state laws.
Don't you mean OweMalley lied to the citizens of Maryland to get elected! Now the man responsible for the biggest tax raise in Maryland's history will try to show he is an advocate to the people of Maryland!

So our State leaders believe that this is a good deal? Try again. We have lived in Maryland for a little over three (3) years (36 months) and now after all the reporting by this newspaper about BGE & Constellation "overcharge" (gouging is more like it) and now we are to believe that our elected leaders believe (that we) will think that the settlement ($170) is "fair"? In our example, that means that BGE/C have only robbed us of only $4.72 per month. This in no way equal the quoted increase of 72%. Our bills have been over $250 since the BGE/C gouging began which would equate to a $180 rebate per month, even if we just take this year, that would amount to $540 for Jan-Feb-Mar. Can our elected officials explain that one? Many will be happy to get the $170. But...when you divide this amount against what we have paid month after month following the deregulation...its sounds like a “quick (low-ball) bribe” to keep our mouths shut. Doesn’t anyone in office believe that some Maryland Tax Payers can do simple math. Try again. When will Corporations (and their investors) maintain a (well deserved) profit margin without gouging?
