Settlers had high hopes for Llano del Rio

Old West enthusiasts are well acquainted with the concept of "ghost towns." Most of them were one time promising mining ventures and railroad communities that went belly up.

Llano del Rio Socialist project began May, 1914.
Llano del Rio Socialist project was done by 1916.
Newllano Socialist project began 1917 and was done before it began, really.

The biggest problem in both situations was not water, dry or too damp.

The real problem was tensions between those who did their assigned work and those who did not.

As in any situation, there were so many people who moved there for the "freebies" and were lazy and didn't contribute.

Socialism only works as long as you have access to other peoples money. When you drain them dry of funds, socialism fails, again, again, again, again..........
