The phone carrier should have a cell phone option that can be programmed by a parent so that the child's hand set can not be used during school hours e.g., 9am-3pm programmed off. No phones in school for Bocephus and Ellie May otherwise.

The kiddies can call Papa and Mamaceto on the way home. Emergencies at school can be handled the old school way, at the office. Kids don't need to be texting, calling friends, etc. while in school. Their mission is to book learn and head cipher, which helps to avoid a Jethro Bodein lifestyle as Uncle Jed's perma sap.

Kids not earning CEOs out there with scooters and Mopeds that require phones! OK, get the childish parents an ice cream cone for complying too. Amen.

kids should not have cell phones. period.
When i was a kid in school beepers were the "in" thing. If we were caught with them they were confiscated and never returned. We were also suspended, And the police were called (in case we were drug dealers)

If your kid really needs something he can go to the office and use the phone there.

What I dont get is when I was a kid my parents wouldnt give me money for a pack of pez, much less a cellular service plan. Give your kid a beating instead he'll turn out a better person.

As a society, we are now dependent upon these devices. I don't think they are necessary for most students, they are a distraction. However, I wouldn't ban them. I think they should be turned off during school hours. Also, every teacher should have a phone, for safety purposes. This could be available for students, when needed.
A simple confiscation usually clears up the urge to use the cell phones in class. In Gainesville, teachers can take them and have parents come to pick them up.

Kids need cell phones in this day and age. Kids need to get rides. They need to make arrangements with friends while in the car. They like to talk to friend/boyfriend/girlfriends. There is nothing wrong with children with cellphones.

I don't think anybody NEEDS a cell phone. Humans survived for thousands of years without them. There are just something to make our lives easier. During school hours kids should be focusing on school not talking on cell phones

You are correct that people have survived without them but there are many instances where cell phones have saved COUNTLESS lives. You are correct that kids should focus on school but thats only what they should do, not what they are doing.
I'm not sure what stance you're taking on this issue. You are right, kids are not focusing on school. That was my point. This is why kids are tardy, why they pass notes, why they talk during class, etc. I don't think we'll ever get kids to stop socializing when they shouldn't be. But why add to the problem? Cell phones allow them to talk easier and more discreetly than before. They have been banned in Racine for quite a long time now. Do we change the rules for the people that didn't read the "Code of Student Responsibilities and Rights" that is given out every year to students? Or for those that just feel it is unfair? As an adult, I'm prohibited from carrying one at work. Sometimes, you just have to learn to follow the rules.

Follow the rules, thats the bottom line, and if the rules need changing or altering, then go ahead and do it but keep in mind the main goal of the original rule.
