It is not all about judging. They always say don't judge a book by its cover. So try going back to see if it is just as bad as you think. It is about the family this town was and is not anymore.

I would love to support my local business. But when the first thing I see walking into the store is rotting produce and fruit flies, I think twice about shopping there. It is not just about shopping there to support them, they have to do their part as well.

There you go ---- we weren't allowed to have Wal-Mart because of their "poor quality and low income customers" and what do we have now??
I do see all our new board members shopping everywhere I go in downtown Lima. LOL !!!
I hope everyone is very happy now that we have come to this. I'm MAD too but I won't be trying to go back. I have tried and tried but there just isn't anything in there I want. Lettuce that goes bad in two days and other scarry stuff. Sorry

I guess low-income people should not be allowed to shop anywhere. Without the Save-A-Lot
there would be no grocery store in Lima.
I find no problem with their produce,or
private labels. In fact I like going there and finding name brands, as well as saving money.

I am very happy for you. I wasn't the one that didn't want low income people. That was your anti WM people. What I do miss is being able to get what I want and need and not some mystery item.
I miss the deli and I bet all those working men that used to buy their lunch there do too. I miss being able to buy a lottery ticket once in a while and I miss being able to buy a greeting card or picking up a movie on a cold night. Since I have to travel 15 miles to do any of these things and now to go to the bank I may as well shop at Wal-Mart. But of course if wm came here it would have put our grocery store out of business.
That is along with the Bank and everything that has since gone.As far as I am concerned we missed the boat. So lots of luck. Go ahead and prove me wrong. I will give you a year and we'll see what we have left. That is if YOU are still around. LOL

Until we get viable businesses either downtown (lack of space) or north on 15A, we are going to be just a bedroom community, with very few goods and services. As you spend your tax dollars there,
they will be the ones to prosper. Have a nice day.

Exactly. All the business is where there is a Wal-Mart. At least it is still in Livingston Co.

The problem with getting a "Viable Business" is the need of sales, because many chains stores or suppliers require a certain amount of product be bought in order for them to do business with someone. And if nobody buys enough, the store will also not be able to keep up and then closes. So until this type of doing business ends, then all of those downtowns will be empty for years to come.

Then competition sometimes closes places, but it also may help. In Avon, Tom Wahl was dead set against a McDonalds coming into Avon close to 30 years ago when he still owned the business here. Now we have had a McDonalds here for 10 years. It does not hurt the business of Tom Wahls but offers a choice. Both places do one heck of a business. And they are not far apart. Look at Geneseo, a town that Downtown does a good bit of business, they have a Wal Mart and several other stores, the college helps but that is only for the school months, but the rest of the year they all draw people in, and when people come to one store, many times they go to the others as well. When you don't have much, then people won't come unless they are in real need of a specific item they can not get anywhere else.

I'm just curious if anyone has heard anything about the old empty jubilee space in Mt. Morris??? What are the plans there, I thought they were building some sort of Price Right Market there? Just need info's Thanks!

I also want to comment on the WM discussion here. We have a save a lot in our town and I love it. There's also Tops market as well, but I prefer to go to Save a lot for the price and the workers there are much friendlier. We will also be getting a Super Wm soon, I heard by November of this year. I know when the WM comes save a lot will get a beating and hopefully they won't close. I will still support them since I have know everyone there. I wish them luck just like everyone else in the town with local business that might close since none of the locals support them specially with WM coming.

Good I'm glad the rumor is false...since I was about to apply for a job. Haha, but really I would hate to see it go down the tubes. I have to admit I do miss Big M though...they had much more variety. But what are you going to do?

Rumors, rumors, rumors. I've known the Milburn's for years and talked to them about this.
They say business is up from when they re-opened as a Save-A-Lot and aren't going anywhere.
However it would be nice if more Lima people shopped the store, but they will survive.
Clair and Gary said anyone is more than
welcome to talk to them about these false rumors.

Rumors, rumors, rumors. I've talked to the Milburn's about this and they say it's totally false. Business has increased since their change to a Save-A-Lot almost 2 years ago and they are pleased. Talking to them it's amazing how many people say they miss the Big M, but didn't really shop there. I guess everyone in town wants a store but don't necessarily support it.
Fortunately for them there are people from
surrounding areas that do appreciate a store.
