Today, May 5, 2011, at about 7:30 I witnessed a cat being hit by car on Bloomfield Avenue in the vicinity of Forte Restaurant and the Grover Cleveland Apts. The cat made it across the street but then collapsed on a patch of grass between the sidewalk and a stone wall. I stopped to see what I could do to help it, but it sadly subcumbed to its injuries. I called the police who dispatched an officer. The officer told me that he would alert DPW to pick it up. I asked the officer whether they would check for a microchip, he told me they wouldn't. I am therefore posting this in the event the cat was a household pet and is being missed. Its owner would have no way of knowing its fate. The cat was orange and white and looked to be the size of an adolescent.
Having cats of my own, I am so sad to have to report this.
