Elected officials in Cedar Grove have taken issue with the word "slaughter" as used to describe Essex County's planned controlled deer hunt next month.

Essex County is engaging in an annual slaughter of deer: our Executive is utilizing barbaric methods to eradicate our native wildlife and utilizing our tax monies to fund his cronies rampaging in our neighborhoods with dangerous weapons. The residents of my neighborhood in Essex are disgusted by these primitive methods. Our elected officials bow to the power of County dollars and permit this disgraceful death orgy to take place annually despite the desire of reisdents that they and the deer be left to live peacefully in their respective homes. Sweeney Todd has a counterpart in our County Executive.

I support the upcoming deer "hunt". The same people that are against the hunt are the same people that are feeding the deer. Maybe THEY want to see deer in their yard's and don't mind all the droppings, but I do ! By attracting the deer onto ALL of our properties the deer no longer fear people and feel free to eat anywhere. Their solution is for everyone to build 10 foot fences or plant deer resistant shrubs and plants. Please, can anyone tell me where I can find deer resistant tomato plants ? or who is supposed to pay for me to re-plant all of my trees and shrubs and build higher fences.

Your comment is false and off topic, as well as mean spirited. What is the big deal about deer resistant shrubs? Another primitive who thinks brute force is the solution to all problems. I'll bet he is also a horn-honkinking and middle finger pointing road hog. It would be nice if cooperative models of conduct were valued in our towns.

I think your comment was mean spirited and narrow minded. I happen to be a taxpayer of this town with young children that can no longer play in our yard. In the past 5 years the "lovable deer" have damaged my car, destroyed over 1,500 dollars of landscaping, defecate on my property daily and helped spread Lyme disease to several of my neighbors.Their numbers are way out of control and I'm glad that the county executive is doing something about the problem.

Why do you need shrubs, grass, tomato plants, nature, anyway - go live in the city - there are no deer there. They are just part of the nature!!!
This is the same like you would like to have only one of your hands, since the other one is not of a big use!!!...and to make sure you understand the methaphor - the body represents the nature...

All those people who are for the slaughtering of defensless animals....you redneck uneducated old fashioned piece of shit bastards. I live in Verona, I do not feed the deer. I am in favor of coming up with a solution for the people who are annoyed by the deer, but killing them with slugs from tree tops is barbaric and inhumane. There are better ways. I AM ASHAMED OF OUR TOWN AND THE COUNCIL WHO VOTED FOR THIS and I look forward to seeing each one voted out at the next election.

You're right Dumb Dumb, The Malt liquor was an excellent choice with the venison. Although my neighbors preferred the Cabernet. It's on the menu again for next week and you're invited. Fireworks optional.

I was almost killed last year by a deer who jumped out infront of my car on Eisenhower Parkway and smashed through my window. They need to be controlled in the area....badly.

Cant let the dogs out in the yard without a leash anymore because of the deer shit everywhere....

Hunting is a fact of life. Has been since the beginning of time.
