As a boater, they should have stayed inland. However, I wear a fanny pack and in that fanny pack is a hand held waterproof radio and a hand held water proff GPS. I put them in ziplock bags to keep the weater out also. The cost for both of them was less then $200.00.

If I fell overboard or the boat sank fast and I ended up in the water. I could simply take out the radio and call for help and then give my position.

It is a small price for safety.
