Just finished the book on the southern counties in Il. Good stories on a couple of murders back in the 50's and 60's. I had one case all wrong but I was going on rumors of the time. Author did a good job of presenting the evidence. Is the author available to speak to groups?

I am reading the book now and so far it seems to be accurate with what I have heard over the years. I will comment more when I am finished. It is really interesting .

I have heard really good reviews of this book. Tracking me down a copy now. I remember most of the murders from when I was a kid.

SINS OF THE SOUTH; Big secrets in a Small Town by Maureen Hughes is the title of the book. Yes, amazon.com has it and the author has been making guest appearances in several places in the southern counties.
The author will send you a sign copy of the book if you email her. She was in Harrisburg, Golconda and Vienna yesterday. She gave two speeches yesterday too. She will be at the Rosiclare festival in Sept. And in Marion at 2 location I think. If you have comments for her; email her: maureen_3849@ yahoo.com .
Please note that the line between the name and digits is an 'underscore' mark and not a dash. she was interesting to talk too yesterday. I don't know why the library in Cairo doesn't want one. A man told me it was because the book isn't true. I had to laugh! That must mean MS. Smith doesn't have fiction books in the library. Sins of the South is not fiction. I would think Ms. Smith would want a book signing at the library. ALL the other libraries do.

Someone on Topix recently did say that "Monica ran Cairo".

Maybe Ms. Smith just needs someone to recommend doing a signing there. She may not realize the crowd she would have. Everywhere the author goes for signings has been a sell out. I'm sure SOMEONE in Cairo could tell her it would be a good thing to do a signing. People have come from Cairo to other towns to get the book.

I would think that the Cairo paper would put something about it in it. Like the other newspapers have. The author has been on TV. i saw the interview on 2 different TV stations.

The question is when does one person dictate what can be read, where does that stop, as said it is a PUBLIC library, not private little empire

How do you know they refuse? Did you try to check out a copy?

The fact Monica Smith will not let the book be in the local public library is a godsend for the author.

What will potential readers ask?

Why not?

Too much violence?

Too much sex?

Too much truth?

Amazon, here they come!

I just caught this subject looking for something else.
I read SINS OF THE SOUTH due to a friend's request. I couldn't put it down. The next day, after my wife read it, I read it again. This is history folks! I can't imagine the work and dedication that went into this.
I have since purchased 2 more copies but I understand that the author was in Golconda for a singing and gave a talk on the subject of the book. I wish I had been aware of that then. Anyway I was told she will be in Marion in mid Sept. I WILL be there for that. I plan on
getting several copies for Christmas gifts. I don't know the author but she did a wonderful job on the book. I want to meet her.

I hate censorship! I am coming down to the Cairo library to find out why they do not have a copy! If they do not have one, I will provide one! If it is not available for checkout in a few days I will demand to know why not! Get prepared!
