The problems we have in Cairo are too big for one man to handle/but the man that follows THE LORD can effect change. If you're looking for Marilyn the magician, someone to come in and wave a magic wand, you will never find him. The problems there took years to create and will take years to correct. But the one that comes in and we can follow him as he follows Christ will be the beginning of change. Everyone that has been in the position of mayor, has ran on a platform of "I can make it happen". Tryone is coming to the office knowing "Except the Lord build the house, the laborer labors in vain." Yes, listen to him on the radio, go to the church he pastors at, talk to his neighbors and see if he practices what he preaches. If he does, let's get him in office, If not, add him to the list of wanna be's and move on.

How can he make it happen, holding a part time job at a radio station. If he worked at a full time job I might consider voting for him. But electing somebody who doesn't even work full time. Has he ever had a full time job. Maybe he's like a lot of other people in Cairo, live off the Government. I wonder why he wants to be mayor he needs the extra money the mayor position pays. At least the current mayor Mr.Childs has worked a full time job all his life. He will stand up for whats right and will speak his mind. He stayed in Cairo when it would have been easy to leave with his job. The current mayor is not in it for the extra money! Cairo is his home and want to improve it anyway he can

He used to work at FISCA gas station as a cashier but never in a management position. Not sure if he was even full time.

His wife has always had good jobs supporting them. I assume he is one of Cairo's many self proclaimed preachers because I don't know of any college he went to for Theology.

Having just a part time job does not bother me as mush as hearing he was one of the loudest dissenting voices against cutting the pay of the council & mayor. Having been on the council for 3 1/2 years at the time of the vote he should have known they were getting paid far to much & should have been the one out front pushing to cut it in half or more. Being mayor is more than just looking pretty, it's making pretty hard choices for the good of the city.

I don't see how yall think Tyrone don't work? He does have a job at the radio station and isn't he the police commisioner? Now he wants the job of Cairo Mayor which I am sure don't pay much. Why do people have to nit pick? I don't remember people saying anything about Chils. And what has he done to make Cairo batter. Or better yet, what about the corrupt former mayor Farris? Nobody raised questioned about him when he ran and he wasn't even from Cairo. He came from Olive Branch. I used to live in Olive Branch and I don't think there are many other places in Southern Illinois that are more racist. How do u bring in a guy from a proven racist area to govern over a largely Black town? I don't get it.

Exactly! Tyrone is our POLICE COMMISSIONER AND MURDERS, ARSONS & HOUSE BREAK INS ARE ALL WAY UP!!! So now you want him to be our mayor? You are right to compare him to Farris though, I hear that quite often.

Tyrone as mayor will be taking a step back to four years of Farris.

P.S. 1 part time job at the radio station & showing up 2 hours a month for council meetings does not equal 1 full time job. Now if his wife was running she would have my vote!

Why after so many years being in the retail business did Tyrone stop working in it?

Why after leaving FISCA has he not held a job where he would handle money or inventory to be sold?

What happened at FISCA? What happens when future employers call FISCA for past references?

Why can't he get a full time job?

Why?

why, those sound like fair questions. Here's some more you might be asking.

Why haven't tbere been any more businesses open to replace the ones (where Tyrone worked) that closed?

Why don't a lot of employees that work handle money? Does everyone who changes from one job to another have the exact same responsibilities?

If Tyrone has had so much spare time, has he been using it to learn more about running a city?

Has he been seen helping our citizens and mentoring our children?

Has he dedicated his life to Cairo?

Has he done more or less than his predecessors?

As a mayor, what is he proposing to do?

Don't know about Tyrone but the last few months FISCA was open they let 3+ go for stealing money, beer & cigarettes.

Has he dedicated his life to Cairo? Thought he lived in CA for a while.

If Tyrone has had so much spare time, has he been using it to learn more about running a city? With Bo as his mentor? LMAO

Has he been seen helping our citizens and mentoring our children? Yep when there are cameras present.

Has he done more or less than his predecessors? Less if you go by the crime rate of Cairo now with Tyrone as Police Commissioner. And a HELL of a LOT LESS THAN CAROLYN PONTING the former Ward 5 councilman which he took her place. She kept the parks up & had the park decorated every Christmas.

As a mayor, what is he proposing to do? As little as possible if you go by his work ethic, part time jobs here & there.

I'm not saying to vote or not vote for any candidate, however, when I see someone trying to discredit a particular one I have to wonder what his or her agenda really is.

Is the mud-slinger a political opponent, someone with a personal axe to grind, or someone who thinks they are helping their choice to win.

It wasn't long ago that the blame for the higher crime rate was being laid at the feet of the former chief of police and Kathy McCallister was being blamed for the condition of the parks. Tyrone was being praised for showing concern for his constituents during a utility failure caused by a storm.

Tyrone did spend some small part of his life away from Cairo, but he was involved with its citizenry both before and after that period.

While you may gauge his work ethic by the number of hours for which he is paid, I feel it should be gauged by how he fills his hours and whether he has enriched lives througth his existence. Those things we may never personally know.

I have know the current mayor for years. He's not perfect by any means. But he's not in it for the money or the power. He has retired and thinks he can help Cario. There is not any money or grants available so he has very little to work with. I haven't heard many complaints as with the former mayor. I AM VOTING FOR JUDSON.

Well, looking back over the years plans for Cairo got lost or never existed. When the great fathers found out they would loose control over Cairo when the I57 was built around the stealing got ramped up. So, in later years you have nothing to show except decay and destruction. I pray and wish Cairo could return to a viable community. Not in this life time.

Stop beating up on both Judson and Tyrone. What are you or can you do anything to help Cairo? It is a shame to see two first cousins (sister and brother kids) caring on this way, Ms Mason is turning in her grave, I bet.
Yes, Cairo, is my home and it truly hurts when I return to see it's present state.

Not in it for the money or the power? You must be more of an idiot than he is to make such a remark.

Too bad you don't have a better command of the English language. You could have just said "I disagree", instead of calling someone and idiot. I'm not sure why, but Cairo Topix is full of people who cannot have a decent discussion. All they can do is hide behind a fake name and call other people names instead of just stating a point of view without being hateful. Differing viewpoints is part of what makes this old world go around. It's possible to respectfully disagree.
