Just wondering why the county has double standards for their employees.
For instance, I was told by several of the EMS workers that they are not allowed to sit down and eat at a restaurant, but had to get it to go and take it back to their station.
WHY?
It takes just as much fuel to go and get it as it would to sit and eat.
But while they are forced to sit at the station like misbehaving children, the Sheriffs deputies meet every morning at Pickle Patch and sit and eat, and sit and eat at what ever restaurant they decide on all through the day.
As well, the road department gets to sit and eat as well.
Can anyone explain why this is?
And it seems that a certain county commissioner has it out for our Emergency medical people, and tries to give them grief at every turn.

It only seems to me that while they are eating,if they have a call to go to,it makes sense to leave from the station. That is probably the reason, to save the county from lawsuits. The police and deputies are dispatched from anywhere they happen to be at the time.I don't think they are being picked on. The next time you see one of your public servants thank them for the job they do and watch the reaction you get! A little pat on the back never hurt anyone!

That statement stupid, we respond from where ever we are, to include Thomasville if we are returning from the hospital there. Why would being at a restaurant have any thing to do with it.

It is just a pure case of Charles Renauld showing his "Power".

Do the Cairo fire department personnel take their truck to restaurants and eat everyday or do they bring their food and cook it in their kitchen(or have it brought to them) while they are on shift. Just curious

Oh my goodness why on earth would we need to leave from the station to go on a call. Look out everyone there is a genious in the room. That makes no sense for you to say that and then turn around and say that the sheriffs department can and can respond to calls faster. WEW THAT WAS SMART

I don't even care about somebody patting me on the back for the service I do. I COULD CARE LESS. Just pay your ambulance bill when it comes in how bout that. These citizens actually think we want a thank you now - We wanted that years ago. I don't want crap from any of you, with the broken hand me down beds that was donated to us from the stupid fire department in 1991 because they were too broken for them to sleep on and they got new ones so that is what we sleep on now. They sag down and give us back problems, stupid ambulances with old rickety boxes that break down all the time and the air doesnt work in the summer. What more could I want from you citizens, you say thanks everyday when I think of these things plus millions more. Keep your food up town business, I will bring my sandwiches from home because when I start cooking and get a call I have to cutt it off and it get ruined, it was so much easier and cheaper to get take out food. I will bring my chips so just keep your chicken and rice and other crap that gets donated 2x a year. And don't ask me to come teach your school or whatever else CPR why don't you just go to the school and pay for it instead of trying to get something else free from me. I've got my family at home, and they know what I do and what I did to get my education and I don't need anyone to tell me otherwise. Crappy, that's just the things that make us feel the way we do..........Yall don't worry about it, over half the people in EMS is looking for a way out, most are going to school or getting training in other fields to get out of this crap hole...Then volunteers can go pick the people up off the toilet too.... LOL that would be perfect

I just asked if the Cairo fire was required to stay at the station.
If you don't know the answer or don't like the answer sorry.
Maybe they stay at the station so they can look at the map before they leave.Maybe the most important thing is the job, not your feelings that you chose the wrong career path or county to work in or whatever else you want to blame on everyone else.

Stop the music, I feel like you just made me have a moment....NOT. I don't care about the fire department, quit trying to compare EMS and fire, we are not the same. I will have feelings about whatever I want to have feeling about just like you do. If you don't like what I say then don't read it. I'm not sitting here talking about your job, so stop trying to tell me what I'm doing on mine billy bob firefighter wanna be traffic director - woops you can't even do that good - MAN can we get some trained people around here. And guess what BOY, next time I get lost just direct me the right way, It's not like you can do anything before I get there anyway. Watch out people a life saver just walked into the woods. Hey doesn't batman even have a GPS? Hmmmm, I gotta get one of those,........

Let me weigh in on this. Perhaps we chose the wrong career field, but be glad we did, otherwise when people in need cried out, no one would be there to respond.
But as you work your 8-5 type jobs, and drive home to be with your family, think of us, stuck at a station waiting for your world to fall apart around your ears so we can come and try to save it.
Or when some drunk jackass pulls out into your lane and your wife/husband, child or loved one is trapped in the car bleeding to death, then berate us for making our career choice.
Enjoy Christmas at home, eat your Thanksgiving dinner with your family, but if we are such idiots for chosing our career field, then don't call us when little Sally chokes on a chunk of potato salad, or Uncle Billy's clogged arteries finally close off as he stuffs down the sweet potato pie and he keels over.
And, if the people who do use EMS would as mentioned, pay their ambulance bill, perhaps we could have GPS and updated equipment so that we wouldn't get lost coming to your house at 3 am, driving in the fog, trying to see the road with worn-out windshield wipers that we can't get replaced due to lack of funds.
I, like my former co-workers in Grady, and the surrounding counties, are professional health care providers, and most of us are seriously considering leaving EMS due to the low pay, crappy working conditions, shoddy equipment, but mostly from the lack of respect from the people we are serving.
I gave Shady Grady 2 years, two years that I busted my ass to help as many people as I could, and see the thanks we get.

Bad beds, worn out equipment, no GPS, have any of you sat down with the person in charge and actually come up with a plan to fix anything or do you just whine about it here.

More times that you would care to count. And the answer is always the same, the is no money in the budget for it.

Which is just one of the many reasons I no longer work there, as is with several of the other former Grady medics.

Most of the medics that work in Thomas county got their start at Grady, the unoffical nickname for Grady Co. EMS is the Training Grounds, go there learn the trade, then move on to a county that gives a damn about their employees. Go to Thomas county, Mitchell county, Seminole county, and see the nice NEW, clean, well equipped stations they have, then go to Grady see the hovel there.

We have addressed the issues, but it's like talking to a brick wall. Some things never change.

Even though I don't live in his district,I called the commissioner mentioned above that this blog is so pissed at. He said this was the first he had heard about worn out beds and would look into it. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Good start, now, lets try getting a few other things, like an ambulance that doesn't have an outdated half ass refurbished box on it, one that has lights that works in the box. Lets take a look at M3, got smacked about a year ago, the damn box sits crooked on the frame, Safe? who knows, it hasn't been inspected, just a quick bit of body work and some paint.
But the main point of this thread was to discuss why EMS is treated like red-headed step children, being made to stay at the station and not allowed out in public, while the other departments are free to do as they please.
Hell, EMS is catching so much flack that the director is scared to drive his county car and leaves it parked at the station. But then again, being as its an old retired SO POS, that might be a good thing.
Face the facts, if Grady County EMS is such a loving caring environment, if Grady county commissioners are such joys to work for, the why the HELL are their medics leaving left and right???

I want us all to get along, but I will comment on this thread too. EMS is treated badly, by the commissioners, by law enforcement, by the fire department, by the county shop, by the nursing home, by grady general, by AMH (I HATE THEM), by the citizens.......It all comes down to the story about the stray dog. The dog that gets mistreated for most of his life and who gets kicked for no good reason, by the way that's the same as an abused child, this dog will always have his tail between his legs and will always have his head lowered and not looking anyone in the eyes because he still wants to keep getting fed without getting kicked. If your always patted on the back and petted behind the ears, and fed good canned food out of the can, and get taken on walks every afternoon, then you will be a proud dog, loyal to your owner, with a healthy shiny coat and ready to fetch that damn stick and bring it back. Why don't you do that to the abused dog, he will take your food from the generic bag and eventually will leave your house when something comes along - are we talking about dogs or employees????
