American Bottoms is ripping off those FEW of us who pay pur bills again. I used to call in my payment on the day due to save the rising postage cost. NOW American Bottoms is charging a fee to PAY RHE BILL over the phone, whether yoy use an automated system or a live person. This is ridiculous. As a Cahokia customer, you already get THREE different bills. What a RIPOFF.

You could move to Sauget. They don't have to pay AB

It sure is a ripoff. They should be happy anybody pays. Casetville's charge for paying online through e-pay is half of what Cahokia's water dept charges. Why? Can you answer that Gary or Dawn?

Every time a credit card or debit card is used, every business is charged a certain rate just so we the consumer have that option. Some businesses absorb some or all of it, others now make you pay the full amount for that privilege. Don't like it pay in cash or a check the next time in person or via the mail. And I don't like any more then the rest of you but there is NOTHING you can do about it unless you own the business.

As a cusomer and taxpayer of Cahokia, I don't have any choice of whether to deal with American Bottoms or not. And Gary et all have nothing to do with this. American Bottoms is a monopoly and those of us who DO pay our bills on time are subsidizing a large portion of the Metro East welfare recipients who do not. They are charging for paying your darn bill. Pathetic-why not cut off the water to the freeloaders?????

The law was changed and now they do turn off the water of customers that do not pay. Sauget residents do pay for sewer treatment.

and what did this have to do with my post?????

All I did was explained why there are fee's for using a debit or credit card at some businesses nothing else.

and that should be figured into the cost of "doing business." One shouldn't gave to pay a fee to pay their bill. And we don't have any choice but to have to deal with American Bottoms. Cahokia is one of the few places where one has THREE DIFFERENT WATER BILLS. They didn't give proper advance notice of this change or I would have MAILED MY BILL IN THEN. So get off your high horse=the people who DO pay their bills have been carrying the freeloaders for years.

Oh so you're upset that you now can't wait until the due date or a few days before to pay the bills via the phone for FREE. I can't do a dang thing about how bills can be paid now. I'm not any more happy about it then you are that we can't pay my bills for free via the phone any more. So I guess I'll have to do it like we did it during the "Stone Age". Put a check/money order in an envelope, address it, throw a stamp on it and make sure it's in the mail at least a week before it's due.
Like I said before "ALL" credit/debt cards charge the business a fee so "YOU" have the privilege of NOT having to use cash or write a check. Businesses Do NOT have to except debit or credit cards, and I can think of at least 6 of them locally that take ONLY cash, no checks/debit/credit/stamps CASH ONLY.
As far as who's on they're high horse, all I'm doing is explaining the facts of businesses letting YOU use a credit/debit card to pay a bill and IT AIN'T FREE, never has been never will. Someone has to pay to use this convenience and it just happens to be the consumer now.
Yep I have carried free loaders for years just like every other tax payer in this country and a lot of them are the people we elected to run this country. Can't say I have ever been a free loader, but hell I've been wrong before but then I realized I was mistaken about it. But when our bills show up they always have a ZERO balance on them. We've been on budget billing for over 30yrs and pay the same amount every month. We just pay it ahead at the beginning of the month so we don't have to worry about it.
Do you, myself or anyone else truly have control over very little if anything that our government or any businesses do???
NOPE..........
So go take a a couple of Zoloft, Xanax, or whatever drugs you forgot to take for your anger issues.

There was long notification. and I pay all my bills on time. It shouldn't matter to you if I'm upset. You must be one of the farmer's favored employees. And you write SUCH long paragraphs. This is an open forum. So go suck a lemon. Have a nice day.

Oh my you hurt my feelings, sorry to tell you but how could I be an employee of the city when I have been disabled for 25plus years. I guess in you little brain that didn't register. And yes this is an open forum but it seems you're upset that I was stating the FACTS about that it DOES cost someone to use your debit/credit card to pay any bill. But I guess the lack of an education or brains doesn't allow you to understand even the simplest words or rules. It's also a shame that these LONGGGGGGGG paragraphs are so hard for you to read, I'll make it a point to use shorter paragraphs and simpler words for you to understand.

Let's see if this helps you....
Nothing is for FREE.
Using a debit/credit card ALWAYS costs someone to use.
Neither you or I can't change it.
If you're still upset by it, Pay your bills w/cash or check on time.

As far as sucking on lemons, sure why not I love them in ice tee.
And I always have a great day, any day on this side of the grass is a good day.
Why sweat the small stuff over things you have NO control over???

WTF are you talking about, I never mentioned Gary in the post you quoted.
For you're info AB now does turn off the water for non-paying customers.
AND the person to blame for all those years of those non paying customers NOT being shut off or taken to court was the late Rep Wyvetter H. Younge. She was the one who told AB that can NOT turn off or take those people court for collections.
Oh wait short sentences so you can read them. sorry I hope I didn't overload your brain w/big words & long sentences or paragraphs.

I said it before and I will say REALLY SLOW AGAIN-i PAY MY BILLS BY THE DATE THEY ARE DUE. The monopoly known as American Bottoms did not give notice on their change in policy or I would have mailed myn bill. WHY you are so concerned with my "rant" I do not know. So take your nose out of my business and smell the poopoo that you have been dropping. Have a nice "life". Sheeeeesh.

So which is it???

You're counter-dictating yourself there.
So either you didn't get proper notice or you did.
You yourself have said you got a long notification on this new rule.
So which is it???
Personally I think you're just PO'd because the rules how to pay have changed & now YOU have to pay for that privilege rather then then business.
I have some lemons for to make lemonade with...

When I inquired at the Water/Sewer Dept about the $3.00 fee for using your debit card. I was told that is the standard fee all businesses charge. I told Chrissy that is not true because at J&J they only charge $.25 fee to use a debit card.

long notification-mistype. There was no notification. I have been paying my bills at this place over the phone for years. You must really hAVE ATTACHED YOURSELF TO MY HIP. So I paid my money to corporate Topix and found out who you are. Let me put it this way, change it is acoming to American Bottoms. If you are so offended by my "rant:, then don't read it. YOU are the one who needs meds-you are obviously on a MENTAL disability. So please take your meds. Once again, have a good day and a good life and amuse yourself with my self admitted craqppy typing. And remember to change your depends.

AND I plan to pay my nexgt American Bottoms bill in person at the Sauget office, in pennies (legal US tender) with an assistant producer and a reporter from a LOCAL station in tow. So "Get Use To It"-your screen name says a lot about you, too, do you know that? PLEASE take your meds and quit soiling yourself over my problems and my opinion on American Bottoms business practices. Because I can tell you, there are PLENTY of other citizens who feel the way I do. Have a nice, quiet life.

Caseyville accepts payments for $1.75. And they don't screw with you and overcharge when their employees make the mistake or neglect to do something.
