Hi, I grew up on Kinder St. Between Falling Springs Rd and Rt 3.
My great aunt and uncle Amy Bevelot lived off of Water St.
My cousin Sandy Dietzel lived and still does off of Ruby St. She and her friend use to walk to that old store and one day her friend ran across the rd in front to go to Ruby and the girl got hit by a car. My cuz hesitated and did not get hit. Her friend lived but was nearly killed.
My husband grew up off St. James in St. Joesph his mom still lives there today.

This is off the subject....but my father use to work with Thirfty Hardware. Him and Bert were good friends. He use to put up chain link fences all over town. My dad also use to work at the City Hall in Cahokia in the 60's, which is in the area your talking about, I believe. Remember the fire chief Phil Rachell? He was also one of the coolest bus drivers. He use to sing, "King Of The Road" all the time. LOL!
He turned out to be my husbands sister's father-in-law. Small world. He passed away some years back.

Hi everyone! I was just reading this string and remember alot too. I was from St. Joe, but knew alot of people over in St. Johns. The Cases, Finchen, Totras, Roepers, Jones, Hendricks are a few names of folks that I knew back in the day. I'm a Class of 83 grad, but went to Holy Family in grade school.

I still keep in touch/run into a few of these people...

One name did come up that I always wondered about... Bean. Kim Bean was a very good friend back in high school, but lost touch with her after school and never heard from her again. I tried to look her up a couple years ago on other websites, but no luck. Does anyone know what happened to hear or where she is? It sure would be nice to catch up.

This string has brought back quite a few memories for me as well, even though I was an "outsider" - LOL :)

Have a great day all!

This is the best post I have ever read on Topix. There was a few jack buts on here trying to ruin it but you all ignored the fool. This is so touching to me I am almost in tears. I am sorry Cahokia is not the way it use to be, it is not my fault I don't live there, but I did go to school there, and I am black, I apoligize for the low lifes that is destorying it. Please keep going down memory lane I love reading this. God Bless you all, you are so wonderful. Keep ignoring the fools that want to steal the joy out of this post.

The 60s and 70s here was racist and gender biased. Nothing has changed. Look at the ignorance and denial in this thread. It was trashy then. Different color of trashers is all.
