Did any body see hear the strange looking helicopters that flew over last night. They were big real low and all lit up. Sounded strange not like the usual ones from Ft Campbell.

think its ARMY extras known as the national guard units.
In this case a shooting happened up in hopkinsville ky. and the persons name was known so they maybe were keeping watch while a suspect was on the loose .
the person did not have a fatal injury thankful to say but they knew who the person was who did it.
SO again I bet the military helps keep watch til they find that guy on the loose.
or could be just a training exercise too./MILTARY/

If they were bigger and louder, they were probably Chinooks. One night, we had about 20 fly over. It sounded and felt like we were in a garbage disposal. Sometimes they would fly really low. I think they were practicing for SAR training.

No. I saw them. Four flew over my house on the South Road headed east. They were not like like any of the 3 kinds that you see from Ft Campbell. They had one rotor on top but they were a lot bigger than a Blackhawk.

They may have been CH-53Es. They are Navy/Marines.

I think USAF still uses some MH-53's but they are being replaced with Ospreys. They might certainly work with 160 SOAR...

What this person described seeing does not fit the Osprey. They said the helicopters had one rotor on top. Osprey looks like an airplane when it is in level flight only it has stubby wings with two huge forward facing propellers at the wingtips. About the only thing that fits their description is a CH-53. CH-53 also sound different because they have three turbine engines and multi-blade main rotors. Their rotor noise sounds kind of like it would if you stuck the end of a ruler into an electric fan only a lot louder.

Sounds like they've been identified, GYFS... And for the record, the V-22 is not used by the Army, not even the 160th...

Maybe they have something to do with whatever is going on at Ft Campbell. Have you noticed the big guns for the last week? It sounds like the Western Front. Our whole house shakes.

They always have intensive training just before a deployment. Any units shipping out?

Don't know. If they are I just hope the destination isn't Iran.
