When will the Mayor make the people in Cadiz clean up their surroundings. The Ham Days are coming up and some of the places looks more like a ghost town. Some of the patrons have painted up and fixed up their places while the others let them go downhill and look terrible. Can't something be done, or doesn't he want to make people mad. Its a black eye on the community.

I case you have not noticed, Cadiz is dying economically. Every time I come home and drive through town after 5 pm I feel like I am in Piedmont, AZ, the fictional town in Michael Crichton's 1969 sci-fi thriller "The Andromeda Strain." Until something is done about the economic base, trying to spruce up Cadiz is like dressing up a corpse.

Putting lipstick on the pigs downtown won't help Cadiz. but making people at least paint their homes and put up curtains and doors on Main Street will. The eyesores of some people homes are a reflection on the town but some just don't care, and yes they do have the money to get this done, just don't care.

Money is a lot scarcer in Cadiz than you seem to think it is. The economy has shrunk drastically since 2008. A lot of jobs that paid well are gone, and not just Johnson Controls. A lot of people who lived in Cadiz and worked in Hopkinsville lost their jobs too. Those that found new jobs, those jobs almost always paid a lot less than the jobs that they lost. Older retired people who lived on income from things like 401k accounts also lost a lot of income when the stock market crashed. I know elderly people who are having to help out their middle age children who lost jobs pay their mortgages. When a household is short of money, one thing that they always cut back on first is house maintenance. Painting a house can run to several thousand dollars, especially for a huge old dinosaur like the houses on Main Street.

I agree with you From Trigg County. I know times are hard, but the one place I am speaking of is in the historical area and has looked the same for 30 plus years and across from the big Baptist Church. Plywood to cover up a door and raggy sheets for curtains is such a let down when going into town to attend the Pig Days. I know it gets hard to buy paint and such but surely over 30 plus years someone could do alot better. I thought this homes had to be maintained in a certain manner, evidently I am wrong.

I don't know it is true or not, but I heard that the reason nothing gets done to or about that house is that it is on the National Register of Historic Places, which makes it hugely expensive for the owner to do any work on it.(I have no idea why that house would be considered eligible, because far as I know there is nothing "historic" about it. It is just old.) I also heard that the house was somehow placed on the National Register without the consent or knowledge of the owner by someone who was a neighbor at the time, a person who is now no longer in Cadiz. That would not be possible now, but I do not know what the rules were 20 or 25 years ago.
